MermaidFight has now a Ko-Fi! If you want to see new mermaid art, you can find them from ko-fi.com/mermaidfight Every month there will be 2 colored artwork uploads. One artwork will have flat colors and the other one is slightly more detailed with shadows and rendering.

Mermaidfight doesn’t have other social media platforms, all mermaid artwork has been uploaded here on tumblr. If my artwork has been uploaded to other places, it has been done without my knowledge.

There has been a long period of time when I haven’t been drawing mermaids at all. Either I have been too tired to draw anything for fun because I have been drawing at work all day or not feeling like it. Sadly, it has mostly been the last one. 

I’m not going into details but mainly my interests have shifted a bit. I have found other things to work on. I’m not saying that drawing mermaids with different body shapes isn’t important to me anymore, it’s just that I have moved on to work on other things. 

Another reason was the huge amount of art suggestions. As some of you have noticed, the ask box has been closed for months now. This was done because there were so many asks and suggestions coming that I couldn’t keep track on them anymore. I love all the suggestions and ideas but it has been.. too much for me to handle. Especially all the art suggestions, I feel awful for not managing to draw all of them. Heck, I still have asks left years ago and I still haven’t worked on those. 

I had to accept the fact that I can’t grant every wish, especially when this is just a hobby for me. I might work on them at some point but I’m not promising anything. I actually hope that other artists might take inspiration from the art suggestions that have been posted here and make designs based on those! Those are good ideas and worth drawing / writing about.

If that is how you see how mermaids work, I’m not going to stop you. Everyone has their own headcanons.

But in all honesty, all I can do is shrug here. Because in the end, we are talking about a fantasy creature. Scientific accuracy has also never been the theme of this blog. I mean, I’m pretty sure we can safely say that this blog is FAR away from “scientifically” accurate drawings of mermaids, that’s for sure. All art in this blog is done for fun and enjoyment.

I don’t think you ever originally meant that “it wouldn’t be realistic for fat mermaids to exist.” I think you simply had your own aesthetic preference in what a mermaids should look like and disliked the idea that a mermaid could be fat. That is what it seemed back then and what it still seems right now.

Now, I don’t know why you decided to send me that ask in the first place. Maybe this was the first time when you saw this kind of art and felt confused. Or maybe you wanted to attack me. I don’t know. I was just very confused when I read the ask, didn't know what to think of it.

I can’t give you a proper answer why exactly I draw fat mermaids. I find it hard to explain something that just seems natural to me. I also find it very strange that I would have to explain myself for drawing something that doesn’t harm anyone or isn’t even disturbing in any way. There isn't a deep hidden meaning behind my fat mermaid art. I just draw. For fun.
