zoella had been a little nervous to talk to skylar after her conversation with jackson but she knew it needed to be done sooner rather than later. it was harder to track down skylar than zoella thought. she tried her house first and when she wasn’t there she tried their parents house but they said they just missed her so back to sky’s house she went.
she had been rehearsing what she was going to say in her head up until skylar opened the door, then every thought she had went out the window.
“hi.” was all she managed.
“can i come in to talk? please?”
“why so you can brag about how everyone loves you and your stupid parties?”
“that’s.. actually part of what i wanted to talk to you about.”
skylar’s face stayed neutral but she turned to walk away without closing the door which was zoella’s indication to come inside so she did, closing the door behind her.
despite being in her sisters house she felt like a stranger as she slowly made her way into the living room where skylar was already waiting on the couch. she sat quietly on the opposite side to give skylar her space especially not knowing how this conversation would go.
“so, spit it out.” skylar said trying to get her sister to talk.
right. the what. this is where the rehearsing came into play so she wouldn’t say the wrong thing.
“for everything. for the way i treated you when i first started my career, for the way i continued doing it, for not being a better sister-“
“skylar please, i don’t expect you to forgive me but can you at least hear me out with what i have to say?”
there was a pause that felt like forever, skylar’s eyes like daggers as she stared at zoella with her arms crossed. “…..fine.”
she cracked the smallest smile before taking a deep breath.
“i know that i flaunted my career in your face and if i could take back everything i would-“
“but i cant.” she frowned. “i have to ask… why did you hate me so much when i did first start? i know it’s not an excuse for the way i acted.”
“why? you really have to ask why? how about we start with the fact that you knew i wanted to be in your shoes, i wanted to be the pop star and i had the talent for it and you knew that.”
zoella didn’t know what to say so skylar continued.
“i never once wanted to take over the family business, that has never been my dream but serenity was gone and you fought so hard NOT to take over that it was only me left. there would’ve been no one and they were so excited that one of their kids was going to take over how was i supposed to tell them how much i hated the idea?”
“i guess we didn’t really leave you much of an option…”
“i’m really really sorry sky.”
“i don’t care how sorry you are. you’ll never be in my shoes to know how i feel, the exhaustion from having to take class after class when i’d rather be doing something else. you’ll never know what it’s like to watch your own twin sister live your dream and rub it in your face.”
zoella couldn’t help but start tearing up. skylar was right, she would never understand how her sister felt especially with how she treated her and that was going to eat at her forever.
“no. don’t you start that, you don’t get to be the one to cry zoella. you’re a world famous pop star with more money than you know what to do with.”
she nodded and quickly wiped her tears away as she took a deep breath again.
“how come you never told mom and dad?”
“what that the only child they had left to rely on doesn’t want to take over the family business that’s been in our family for literal generations? i’m sure they’d take that so well.”
“you never know, maybe they’d understand!”
“no! i’m not gonna be known as the family disappointment.”
“you don’t know that! you can’t know that because you’re the big shot of the family! the one everyone loves! the kind an generous one while i’m just known as the bitchy sister!”
“no actually this was a bad idea, you should leave.”
“leave. now. please just go. GO!”
skylar raising her voice made zoella jump but eventually she did stand up and headed towards the door. she looked back to see skylar still on the couch staring into space before she finally walked out.
as soon as the door closed both of them started crying. shit did this ruin what little relationship they had left?
