The sun flutters in through the windows. You look so beautiful. He wants so badly to wake you up. To tell you he loves you and to look after you for the rest of your days. To hold you in his arms and never let go.

But he doesn't deserve to.

You deserve so much better.

At least, so he thinks.

For all he knows, you're destined for someone better.

Someone who isn't cursed with countless regrets.

Someone who doesn't feel lonely even with others around.

Someone... anyone but him.

He sighs and gets to his feet. You look so peaceful there, and he doesn't want to wake you.

"Kai?" Your voice is deeper in the mornings, and it startles him out of his thoughts. "What are you thinking about?"

He clears his throat nervously and shrugs his shoulders. "N-nothing."

"Liar. Tell me."

He exhales. "I was thinking about you."

"Thinking bad about yourself again?" You ask him.

"No...I just...I'm useless, aren't I?" he asks.

"You're not useless."

"Aren't I? You're so much better off without me. Everyone is. It's obvious. You have a real family, and I'm just taking up space."

You don't answer for a while.

"Kai...Do you really believe that?" You ask him. Your voice seems to shake as you look at him. "Do you believe that I'm better off without you?"

"Yes." He nods.

You take a deep breath, exhaling as you frown. "I see..."

And you reach for him. Why? He doesn't know. Maybe so he doesn't feel so alone. Maybe it's a goodbye.

Or maybe, just maybe...It's your way of staying.

He can only hope it's that.

You take his hand in yours, squeezing it gently.

"Kai...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

He pulls away, confused. "For what?"

"Kai, baby...Love's not about what you do or don't deserve. It's about what you need. I'm sorry that this world made you think differently."

He looks at you, puzzled. "Why are you apologizing?"

You take a deep breath, exhaling, "Because I need you."

"You don't need me."

"I do. If you were to...I would be crushed." You run your fingers through his hair. "I need you, Kai. God, how I need you."

"I can't be the one you want."

"You're trying, baby. You're trying your best, and that should be enough. You're enough for me, Kai. More than enough."

"I don't want to be a burden to you."

"You won't be. I promise."

He smiles as you squeeze his hand. You're so close, so intimate. So perfect.

It's enough.

"I love you." You whisper in his ear.

"I love you too."

You lean forward and kiss him.

He shakes his head and takes a deep breath, trying to calm down.

It doesn't work.

He keeps thinking of how you hate him, despise him. And even though he knows it's not true, it doesn't stop him from believing it.

Why would someone as wonderful as you want to be with him? He's far too weak.

And he hates that, because it means you could very well be leaving him.

You wouldn't do that, would you? You wouldn't just abandon him like that.
