I kind of hope that Morty starts to really hate his family. I kind of hope he gets meaner, more tired, more depressed.

This cycle of morty being abused and overlooked and having his family just not give a fuck is so important to me, but I really hope it’s not just a repetitive cycle. There needs to be some kind of breaking point, or evolution of his character. I don’t think Rick is going to magically decide to be better. I don’t think his parents are ever going to start actually caring.

Beth is a fucking joke and so is Jerry.

Rick is the only one who (despite his narcissistic tendencies and god complex) does not see himself as a victim, and therefore helpless. When you don’t have that complex holding you back, it helps you to take a genuine look at what you’ve done to others. He’s the most likely to try and do something right by Morty, in the most meaningful way.

The only real fix I can see happening is for Morty to have some kind of real, genuine friend, or romantic interest that is not involved with his family.

It would need to be someone recurring, space faring, someone who doesn’t act like he’s stupid or useless but can challenge him on some things. (I get bored when tv relationships are too “nice”)

He needs someone to talk to who isn’t actively partaking in the weird smith family pecking order.
