Hi! Kat here. Some of you peeps might remember me from writing a bunch of Coldflash fics back in the day. This fandom has always been one of my favorite spots on the internet and holds a special place in my heart. A big part of that is because of the wonderful friends I met here, including @slimysuckers.

Slimy was one of my dearest fandom friends, a constant inspiration, and my salty sister. It’s a silly nickname we called each other because we loved to fuss about all the whack stuff on the shows (cough cough Oculus cough) and we had the best chats. We exchanged gifts and Christmas cards, talked about meeting IRL one day, but sadly I know now that’s not going to happen.

For those of you who don’t know, Slimy passed away in March. She’d been diagnosed with probable ALS, the same disease that her mother died from at a very young age, and we were just talking about it in late February. Less than two weeks later, she was already gone. I didn’t understand why she wasn’t answering my messages and thought she was busy. It wasn’t so unusual for us to go a little while without talking. But I found out yesterday that she’d died, and I’m pretty devastated.

I really, really miss my friend. <333

After reaching out to some other Coldflash peeps I still chat with, I decided I wanted to do something for Slimy. I want to organize a Christmas card exchange in her honor because getting her cards year after year was always such a treat. I treasured every single one, and even more so now.

I’m making this post to 1) let people know of her passing who might not be aware and 2) gauge any interest in participating. So, big hugs to everyone and lots of love. Let me know if any peeps are out there that want to join in.

Here it is! If you’d like to participate in the card exchange, fill out this form by December 1st. I will send out the address for your peep by December 2nd. I know some people love to buy cards in bulk so I am also including a “bulk list” option.

It was brought to my attention last year that another AO3 user had ripped off one of my works. I reported the work for plagiarism after my attempts to reason with the author failed. Fast forward six months, and AO3 finally made their decision.

They did not find that the user plagiarized my story. I was told that it was “transformative” enough not to require any action on their part, and they can’t force the author to cite my work as their inspiration. There is nothing I can do to appeal their decision.

This is especially hurtful because part of what was plagiarized was one of my own original characters. I am not going to keep my work on a website where I cannot have any satisfactory recourse when / if I get ripped off.

I’ve really been struggling on whether or not to turn this blog into one dedicated to my published works. After all, you guys all came here for free fan fiction, and it feels kind of crappy to share anything that you’d have to buy to read now. I still have no intention of returning to fandom, and yeah, no. I can’t quite bring myself to do it. So, this blog is gonna stay dead, but I’ll keep this post up for anyone who wants to come find me.
