₊⊹ Fireflies glow all around you and you try to point out every star in the sky. Somehow, Toby managed to smuggle a crate of fireworks through the backyard

It was entirely unacceptable, this planet had a sorts of things that could scale a few stories up, the few seconds breaking the primitive lock could be a difference between life and death, and the fact they didn't seem to grasp that baffled Kregg.

"Next you'll tell me you don't lock your balcony door." Kregg accuses... he doesn't like the silence that follows, his head whips around and they look anywhere but at him, "you DO lock your balcony door, right?"

"We're... we're on the top floor...?" The way they say it sounds like they know exactly what they did wrong, know exactly why Kregg would be annoyed that they don't lock their door, but they still try to worm out of it with that excuse.

"Lock your door, and your windows, I don't care if we are on the top floor, that's an order." It slips out without meaning to, and Kregg can't help but internally cringe slightly at the command, before now he's made some comments that could be seen as demands, but could just be written off as rude, he busies himself with the locks.

"I'm guessing you were a military man, huh?" They question.

Kregg tries to side step the question, "what makes you say that?"

They gesture vaguely at him, "just the way you carry yourself, got that whole 0600 hours thing to you."

Kregg didn't realize his bearing came off so openly, "I... I served." Is what Kregg settles on, doesn't elaborate; it's not a lie, he had served, served the empire, was still doing his duties, trying to find some partners.

They don't press thankfully, just let out a hum, they watch him for a while while he replaces the faulty latches, it's when he's working on the window balances, to fix the fact it won't stay open that they speak.

"Have you eaten yet? You said you just got off of work, right? I could make dinner... as a thanks." They trail off, like they're embarrassed by the offer, thanks? Kregg was fixing this as thanks for the the information about the AC unit; and admittedly as a way to scout out a potential partner.

"Dinner..." Kregg thinks about the human food he's tried so far, breads, fruits, vegetables, eggs (that he admittedly burned the first time he tried making them), bland meats, the idea of such a meal isn't appealing in all honesty, but he if were scouting a potential partner; one that could feed his young would be important, "dinner would be adequate."

They dip into the kitchen shortly after Kregg's agreement, Kregg can hear pots and pans clunking, water boiling, slowly smells start to emerge, cooked meat; but it smells different from what Kregg's had thus far, it has that undeniable cooked beef smell but there's something that carries with it, the oven beeps, smells grow stronger. Was this what human food was suppose to smell like?

When Kregg is sat at the table, he vaguely recalls the meal put in front of him, something he's seen in passing, "this is... spaghetti, correct?" Kregg questions, and he sees their expression flatter for a moment.

"Ah... you don't have any allergies do you? I should've asked, this is just what I had in such short notice..." Their brow is furrowed, lips pressed together, they look worried.

"No... no, there's no issues, I just haven't had any in a long time," Kregg lies, "it surprised me is all."

The pasta and sauce are... good, Kregg supposes, nothing mind blowing, but most definitely better then what he has had thus far. It's the meatballs that take Kregg by surprise, he expects bland beef, not the taste that he's greeted with, spices he can't quite name, and then in the center something that truly catches him off guard is cheese, melted and rich, a molten center that doesn't burn as much as it surprises.

A laugh has Kregg looking up, they look amused, their eyes squinted at the corners as they smile, they don't comment, and Kregg is thankful he doesn't have to make an excuse, instead they keep eating in silence.

Kregg had wanted to ask questions, to figure out what he was working with, to find out who was across from him; if they were suitable for the mission, instead he just keeps his head down, eating his first proper meal in far too long.

"Do you want seconds?" They ask, they're barely half way through their plate by the time Kregg's finished the sizeable portion that had been given to him.

Vaguely Kregg wonders if this is a trap, if they are trying to calculate the type of man he is, are they offering to see if he's greedy and indulgent, with little restraint?

On the ships food is plain, but filling, healthy, in this small apartment it's different. What was the acceptable parameters here? Did he appear wanting if he asked for more, or did he appear to appreciate what was given to him by asking for more? What answer was the one of an acceptable partner?

"Do you mind?" Is what Kregg settles on, it's not a dismissal; because he'd be lying if he said he didn't want more, but it's not an outright acceptance in case this is some sort of test.
