hmm thinking about post karaoke when mel and trinity are walking each other home and mel can’t stop messing with her hair. like keeps flipping it back and forth over her shoulders or she tries pulling it up in a loose bun with the rubber band that she accidentally left on her wrist after work because trinity threw her hair tie on the floor of the dirty bar. she tries doing a haphazard braid herself, but she’s just a little too drunk to find the motivation to keep her hands above her head for a few minutes while she finishes a hairstyle, so she just lets out a disgruntled sigh and trinity is like “okay girl, WHAT is going on” and mel is like “i can’t get my hair back into a braid, but i hate the way it feels on my neck when i’m all hot and sweaty” and trinity is like, “really?” and mel gives her a sorrowful little tight lipped smile and shrugs her shoulders before trying to continue walking, but trinity grabs her shoulder and turns her back around. “here” she says, while she spins mel gently away from her. she carefully takes out the rubber band that has somehow managed to get tangled up in mel’s hair, and she gently parts and braids mel’s hair for her. she spins her back around. “better?” trinity asks. mel’s cheeks flush, and she fumbles through her words before managing to spit out “yes, yeah, thank you, dr. santos” and trinity makes a face and is like “you can call me trinity, you know” and mel is like “what?” and trinity is like “trinity. my name.” and she pauses for a second “or ‘trin’ of you want. some of my friends call me that.” she says quietly. and mel stops walking and is like “we’re friends now?” and trinity just smiles and drapes her arm around mel’s shoulder and says “come on dr. king”
(moving forward, mel starts calling trinity “trin” at work and everyone can’t figure out what exactly happened between them)
