Okay Im going to become Captain Obvious for a second and say this fuckass show would be in shambles if Dante's and Mary's gender roles were reversed, and it sickens me that Adi knows that as well.
Like, have a male character who blasts a female character's body with bullets, tases her, locks her up, plants a bomb on her neck, shoots her leg, drugs her, and locks her up, and you'll see how this show would be getting DRAGGED across the floor even outside of the DMC community.
I know the DMC community is like 90% dudebros who would say I wish that was me instead of Dante, but it just pisses me off that we don't take male abuse victims seriously, even in fiction
FUCK DUDE even the show itself doesn't take Dante's abuse and SA (I'm gonna get there in seconds) seriously and plays it off as a joke and fanservice. I literally couldn't even finish S2 because I was so disgusted with how they used Mary abusing Dante as a joke and "Oh, that's just how it is between us," like no??? That's not 'that's just how it is between them,' that literally just Mary abusing/manipulating Dante for the sake of 'comedic purposes.' And the line itself makes no sense. The line 'That's just how it is between us' is used by people who know each other for a long time, like friends, as a way of saying 'That's how we communicate.' Dante and Mary DOESNT KNOW EACH OTHER. They knew each other for like what? 2 days? a week? they dont have a 'thing'; they didn't spend enough time to bond and have a 'thing'.
As for Dante's SA, maybe I am the woker, but I cannot be the only one who was so uncomfortable when in s1 Mary ripped Dante's shirt off? Okay, like I said in the first paragraph, I want you guys to reverse the gender roles for these scenarios too. And even in the show, you guys can see that Dante was clearly uncomfortable, even tho he brushed it aside with a joke. The second time was that fuckass kiss scene. Again, you guys could have seen Dante clearly uncomfortable before Mary pushed him away. And mind you, Dante didn't consent to either the touching or the kissing, and we were supposed to laugh at this scene like it's a fucking joke. And the second time they kiss was purely because they didn't want to make Mary look like an assaulter even tho she literally is and saying "Look guys Dante kissed her back so that means he was okay the first time!! 🥺🥺" IDK, maybe I am too woke
What do ya'll think? lemme know! ₍^ >ヮ<^₎ .ᐟ.ᐟ
