If you don’t remember Sophie M Herold, she is a German girl, who is extremely homophobic and transphobic. She has found out LGBTQ persons names, addresses, personal info etc. And set up her own database. Her intentions with this are harmful.

She is sending out this information, your information, your best friends information, someone you love and care about. She’s sending it to hate groups, malicious people, people with bad intentions. And if you think I’m blowing this out of proportion, people have been kicked out of homes, disowned by families and even MURDERED. Yes, murdered. Innocent people who have done nothing but love. She has had numerous blogs and each have been removed. Tumblr staff are aware of her, and as far as I’m aware she currently doesn’t have a blog, but this does not mean she isn’t still on peoples tumblrs, asking via anon where you live, what your name is. An email I received today. She’s sending out information of same sex couples with children so the children can be kidnapped. She entitled it “Time to strike back”. If that doesn’t suggest harmful intentions I don’t know what does. Please be extremely careful what you post on tumblr, on twitter, facebook, anywhere. Do NOT give out your full name or your address, or even the town in which you live. Look out for one another, and don’t answer any suspicious anons. Especially if they use your name in quotation marks. Sophie M Herold is still out there, she always will be, so please spead this message and warn people. She’s attacking in silence. We don’t need more people dying because of her actions.

I’ve been on Tumblr for a long time, even before I had this blog so I actually was here for the Sophie M Herold saga and I don’t know who decided to spread this now and fearmonger again, but I haven’t heard even a peep about this person doing anything ever since before this post.

People dug up information about the wrong Sophie Herold and used pictures and private information of an innocent girl bearing the same name because of viral posts with unconfirmed information. That girl was harassed and had her information leaked and was doxxed multiple times because people mistook her for this horrible person.

What I’m trying to get at is that this post isn’t active and this girl is not messaging anyone on here in 2021. She (or they, because a lot of people at the time thought it was an elaborate hoax) was active on Tumblr in 2011 and possibly the start of 2012 bur hasn’t been since then.

I’ve never seen any proof that Sophie M Herold was a real person, by the way. Other than, “trust me, it happened” and a whole lot of people reblogging posts spreading panic, there’s been no proof that things mentioned in this and other posts actually happened because of Sophie M Herold.

A lot of people on 2011-2012 Tumblr thought the whole thing was made up to spread panic on here. It worked back then and it continues going on even now, like you can tell based on the notes and people’s reactions. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened, either.

The worst part is that all of the people spreading this post (and the person who made this post) have good intentions, want to help people and protect others, and somebody used those good intentions against them and that is not okay! I’m really sorry this is happening again. If somebody tags you in another version of this post, please help us spread correct and up-to-date information about it!

I’m glad you brought this up because these two things always appear whenever anyone has this discussion.

How can we trust anyone to decide what’s allowed? How can we keep kids from accessing sites open to the public? Since there’s no perfect or immediate solution to either, the best course of action is no action at all.

I totally disagree. It’s such a lazy cop-out.

No one is asking for an internet purity council; we both know thats insane and impossible. It’s just a convenient scary excuse to throw your hands in the air and dissolve all responsibility. But that doesn’t change the fact there are realistic things we can do personally, as individuals, to make public communities safer for kids and unwelcome to predators & bigots.

Moderation is not just enforcing a strict terms of service. It’s the standards you set in your community with your actions & inaction. How do you handle content with pedophilia? Racism? Transphobia and homophobia? Do you have conversations about hardcore porn around/with minors? Do you engage them privately for sexy roleplay sessions? How do you reprimand those that do? Are you hostile toward criticism? Do you discourage reporting and flagging? When community members express concern, do you react with cruelty or undermine their comfort? This shapes the environment of the space, giving dangerous weirdos an idea of what they can get away with.

Kids are nosy and overestimate themselves. I wanted to talk about my favorite anime on popular forums, lj kink memes were poppin’ and public, oops. You’re right, there’s no stopping that. But stopping it isn’t the goal post. Mitigation & damage control is the realistic bar. You don’t need an iron fist to accomplish that.

As for people faking concern for children as an excuse to force conservatism yeah we’ve seen that happen these past few years with QAnon’s Save The Children rallies (here’s an extra article for international folks unfamiliar with this cult) in real time. That’s why I favor changing the culture of individual responsibility over changing the structure alone.

It’s a breezy summer day and the rustling from the leaves outside sound like whispers from my small apartment. I’m sitting in front of my laptop, silently studying the 1.6 billion faces speaking simultaneously in front of me. It’s Monday, the day of the weekly conference call between all Muslims. We have been required to attend this Skype meeting from the the tender age of fetus, but I had never spoken in one of them before. 

That changes today. 

“Hey guys, what if…” I start to say. 

Nobody hears me, but I refuse to be silent. How could I show my face again on Tumblr if I couldn’t even save my mayonnaise friends from death? How could I expect to earn their respect? Anon was right; why hadn’t I done this before? Thousands of lives had paid the price for my ignorance, but not anymore.

“What if you guys….. stopped killing people.“ 

Suddenly, silence. 

1,643,398,023 pairs of eyes are on me. My heart is in my throat as the ISIS leader gives me a blank expression. 

A single tear rolls down my cheek. "Please.” I say with a broken voice. 

He is moved. 

My fingers are almost shaking as I carefully type in the ten digit phone number I have had memorized my entire life. The buttons on my home phone seem to glow a bit more dull, and even the ringing of the phone from the other end seems to be agonized, almost as if the world is telling me to hang up. But I refuse to give up; I can’t let my lily-white friends down. Not again.

The phone rings once. Twice. Three times. Still no answer. Just as I am about to hang up, there is a click.

All I can hear is heavy breathing.

“Hello….” I say quietly, my voice shaking. “Is….. Is this Muslim?”

There was a long silence before I heard a voice answer “ya lol.”

“I was thinking………..” I begin cautiously. “Maybe murder is…………bad.”

“Habibi, I…..I don’t understand. What are you trying to say….?” The voice seems shaken.

“What if…….world peace is good and killing people is…………not good”

He lets out an audible gasp. “Are you saying ISIS is…….bad?”

“Maybe death is…….not good.” I continue. My heart is racing. I remind myself that I am saving thousands of lives, and inhale.

The silence from the other end of the line is almost deafening. He seemed to be thinking, as if he had never considered this idea before in his life. Truly I had opened his heart and his mind. This…. This could end terrorism.

“Muslim….Please.” I whisper.

I hear a tear roll down his cheek, with my Muslim Communication Hearing™, and hold my breath as he finally breathes out his next words.

and now we have artists like ariana grande, nicki minaj, fifth harmony, daya, etc (this isn’t a callout post for them i don’t care about them as individuals i’m just commenting on a trend in pop culture perpetrated by the music industry) who put out music with feminist sentiments but absolutely no evidence of actively rebelling against societal expectations for women. “i don’t need boys i don’t need to be pretty i don’t need to be sexy” performed in scantily clad clothing with makeup sponsored by perfume and makeup companies is proof that capitalistic pressure has kind of destroyed the rebellious nature of the feminist movement.

so now we have a generation of girls raised on the internet convinced that performing femininity and caking their natural face in makeup in order to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty, placing their worth in their physical appearance inherently by paying money in order to appease some made up standard of what is acceptable for women, and they’ve convinced themselves that this, this conformity of expectation of feminist for women, is inherently feminist?

like it sucks like you guys know feminism is a counteractive movement right? like you know to be feminist is to rebel right? it’s not enough to consume pretty, neat, but wholly hypocritical ideals of feminism. it’s lazy. we have a generation of girls who want to adhere to expectations for women, who want to become that ideal that men have constructed, but now because they “reclaimed” it, that’s feminist?

like no sorry you Can do those things you Can put on makeup and shave and look pretty and girl you Can but don’t pretend that’s feminist it’s literally not. you’re not helping feminism the commodification of feminism is not helpful. men are not upset by you saying “the future is female” when you still look pretty and pink and non-threatening. we aren’t liberated by expectation just because you are now accepting of it. feminism is not complacency.

also like women today who love makeup And feminism mocking gnc women sound exactly like men in the 70s who protested feminism on the basis that it makes women “man hating lesbians” so congrats?

The whole fucking thing was hijacked by conservative groups and it’s getting to the point where woman are the ones opressing woman for not meeting their terf conservative standards (see the Kiera knightly shit they pulled)
