Can you go into depth on the symbolism with the characters colour in the heathers movie? (if you want to)
Itās pretty basic but essentially each color we see introduced through characters represents smth that resonates with the character used to show it initially but that doesnāt mean itās limited to that character nor the only color a character will wear
Obviously the big ones are red, blue, yellow, and green associated with the main four girls.
Red represents power and is used throughout the story the most, Chandler introduces it because sheās the one in the position of power at the start of the story but obviously it gets passed around a lot and when we see her home we see that really in her own space she surrounds herself with softer pinks more than anything.
Blue represents honesty and being genuine, veronica introduces it but we actually donāt see her wear it much at the start, she wears mostly blacks and greys with small accents of blue because sheās hiding her true self and putting up a wall around her friends and classmates, she only starts to wear blue later on when chandlers gone and she spends more time alone with jd.
Green imo represents sickness, people assume it means jealousy Bc thatās what most ppl think of when it comes to green being used symbolically but Dukes character really isnāt /jealous/ of Chandler, thatās a misinterpretation of her character. In the earlier scripts where Mac had more of a character arc she was gonna start wearing green as she got more depressed and that paired with how bad off Duke is at the start of the story and how as soon as Chandler dies her greens start to fade to yellow makes me think itās about mental illness
Yellow isnāt used much outside of Macās clothes and since she was originally gonna change colors I donāt think it means much, itās just kind of a way to show someoneās better off in juxtaposition with the use of green.
And then like I said black is used to show someone has their guard up and to give them a closed off mysterious vibe, so Veronica and JD wear it the most. But if you look at JDās shirts throughout the movie underneath all his layers of black youāll see he wears green, blue, and finally red, though he goes to practically all black at the end of the movie. I guess you could say this is because he and Veronica indulge in the power they gain for a short time (Veronica lesser so than him, hence why he wears a bright red button up and sheās just wearing purple because she hasnāt fully gotten corrupted by power) but his final acts at the end arenāt coming from a place of power itās just this frantic spiraling. Idk though I havenāt thought much about the reasoning of his last outfit.
Betty Finn only has small color association, she wears a lot of earth tones and creams but when we see her play croquet with Veronica she uses the pink ball I believe. Pink and Green balls are secondary in croquet and not the first ones you would use if you have four or less people, so itās interesting that Betty and Duke use them. Also small side note involving symbolism and croquet, when you play in teams the colors per team are blue and black versus red and yellow.
