Heathers Headcanons: Backstory References
People who read my writing may have noticed that, by now, I keep the backstories pretty consistent across my fanfictions. So here is the master list of the headcanons for the Heathers (and Veronica)
Her family are rich German-Americans who settled in Sherwood a long time ago. The Chandlers and the Wagners (her mother's maiden name) are prominent families in the community, and have been for a long time. She is related to Mayor Wagner.
They own a lot of land, which gives them a lot of money.
Heather has never really been religious, and when she was twelve year old, she had finally thrown enough tantrums that her parents gave up on forcing her to go to church every Sunday. Now she just goes for Christmas and Easter.
Her parents are divorced. They got divorced when Heather was eight. Both of her parents got new partners really quickly after the divorce.
She no longer believes in love or marriage because of this.
She has an older sister named Stephanie, who she sometimes goes to live with during long holiday breaks so she doesn't have to spend so much time with her mom and her step-sister Lily, or her new little brother Joshua.
Besides, Stephanie is a hairdresser and she does Heather's hair for her.
Heather's mom used to have her do beauty pageants until she was thirteen, when her father put his foot down and said he would seek custody if Heather kept doing them, so they stopped. He could see the effect it was having on her outlook and her self esteem, and wanted to keep her from only valuing her looks.
Her parents aren't very active in her life, and have never been strict with her. She could always watch any movies she wanted to watch or spend time out for as long as she likes or buy the clothes she preferred. They didn't look at her grades or ask about her boyfriends or anything.
When she acted out, they just let her.
Heather was always jealous of her friends with strict parents, because she felt like they must really love their kids if they're so strict with them.
They didn't even care when she was thirteen and lost her virginity, even though they found the used condom in Heather's waste basket.
But Heather also enjoyed how mature she felt compared to her peers. She wore makeup before anyone else, so everyone always came to her for makeup tips. She knew more about love and sex than any of her friends, so girls always came to her for advice.
Heather McNamara was her first best friend, and throughout elementary school and middle school, they wore matching shoes and matching backpacks. They always fantasized about being long lost twins, even though their birthdays are nowhere near each other (Heather M being a Leo).
She befriended Heather D when they shared gym for a year in seventh grade, and they would both stand at the side and not participate and talk together. They both liked to gossip and make fun of their peers, which made them get along great.
Plus, Heather could see that Heather Duke idolized her, and it made her feel important.
Heather and Veronica sat next to each other in 9th grade English, and Veronica let her cheat off of her assignments. Since Veronica seemed cool, she asked her to sit with her and her friends during lunch.
Veronica had a wicked sense of humor and also has lax parents, so she was able to go out and shoplift at the mall and party with seniors with Heather, so they became best friends.
She sleeps over at the Sawyers or the McNamaras whenever she can, because she can't stand to be around her mom.
She got a driver's license as soon as she turned sixteen, and is always out of the house now.
She speaks a little German, because of her family's ancestry.
Her family is Irish Catholic.
Her father is the owner of a luxury jewelry business, so she's the richest among her friends.
She's been doing tumbling/gymnastics and dance since she was five years old, despite 'being too tall' for a lot of it.
Her parents are separated but not divorced, after her mom found out her dad was cheating on her with his assistant.
She and Heather C bonded over having parents that don't live together anymore, which was unheard of in Sherwood when they were kids.
Heather's older brother, Daniel, lives in San Diego and surfs with his trust fund money. Heather misses him a lot and calls him often.
The saint she chose for her Confirmation was St. Cecilia, because she also likes music.
She spray tans often, due to how often she's in competitions for cheer or dance.
She's always taking her friends to concerts and movies with her allowance money. She thinks spamming her friends with gifts is the best way to make them like her.
Heather Chandler was the one who taught her how to do her hair and makeup, with Heather M has always resented. Not directed towards Heather C - she's so grateful for her - but over her mom, who is plain and overly modest and never taught her things like how to put on makeup or how to do her hair.
Heather M doesn't love church, but she's okay with it. For a couple weeks over the summer, she'll be a camp counselor for a youth summer camp for Catholic girls, where she's able to do high-adventure activities for a bit. She enjoys thrill-seeking.
She and Ram started dating as sophomores, and they have been a consistent couple, even though they cheat on each other all of the time. She thinks he's sweet and she doesn't know who else she would date anyway. She's not interested in any of the other guys.
Since she's got a reputation for being a good girl, Mrs. Duke trusts the McNamaras to not let Heather D get into any trouble, so she's able to take Heather Duke on family trips over the summer. The Dukes allowed Heather to come with them on one of their summer trips to China one year, which made Heather M decide to learn Chinese with Heather D.
When Heather was 16, she went to a cheerleading camp where she met a girl name Lana Aoun. They quickly became best friends and Heather realized she had a crush on her.
Lana liked her back and they formed a casual relationship that turned serious. Heather went to live with Lana for the last couple weeks of summer break in Toledo.
It ended really, really badly, with Lana telling the other cheer camp girls Heather's secrets and turning them against her. This was a super lonely time for Heather.
She only told Veronica about it, since she's the least likely to talk to anyone else about it.
She is half-Chinese, half Polish-American.
Her father is an engineer, who works in another town, so it's just Heather, her mother, and her older sister, Jennifer.
The Dukes are Lutherans, and her mom is very active in the church. She enforces that her daughters are active as well, and Heather Duke is still quite religious and hasn't questioned much of her upbringing.
Because of this, Heather was very shy and withdrawan, and spent most of her time reading. She didn't have any friends, so people never asked her to play with them. Since Martha Dunnstock didn't either, they became friends instead.
Heather D was an extremely sensitive child, and she was always crying at school. It was very easy to goad her into tears.
It was a huge shock to her when she and Heather Chandler became friends in seventh grade.
She immediately latched onto her, probably a little too hard. She was always following Heather Chandler around and always wanted to hang out with her. She was obsessed with her.
Heather C clearly found this annoying, but she put up with it.
Since Heather D was the smart one, she could do the others homework, and it made her useful to them.
No one ever flirted with Heather D first, but Heather M was always nice enough to hang back with her while Heather C soaked up all of the attention.
She was so mad when Veronica joined their group, since she became the new smart one, and was able to get a ton of male attention.
Not only did she steal Heather Chandler away from her, but she was also the one Heather McNamara asked to join the cheer team so she could be a flyer. In front of Heather Duke.
It made Heather Duke's bulimia progress into something way more severe than just feeling guilty whenever she ate too much. She decided that if anything else, she would be the skinniest of her friends.
Her parents want to her to go to medical school, but she hates all of her science and math classes.
She's also very good at ice-skating, but not good enough to win awards for it, much to her mother's disappointment.
She was born in Cincinatti, OH, but her parents moved to Sherwood because they prefer small towns.
Her mom is Muslim Lebanese and her dad is a Ukrainian Jew.
She doesn't really embrace any aspect of her heritage, and is basically just a White Girl (TM).
Her father is a literature professor at a university in Toledo, and her mom works on a French-language literary magazine at home.
She's the poorest of her friends, but she's still very well off and spoiled. Her parents put a separate phone line in her room when she was 15, because she used the phone so much to talk to her friends and they preferred this over the hassle of trying to get her to hang up.
She did ballet from ages 4-13, and she was very good at it, until she broke her foot when she was doing a rollerblading competition with Betty Finn.
Since both Betty and Veronica did ballet, and they were both trying out for the same role in an upcoming performance, Veronica always assumed Betty did it on purpose.
In middle school, she got in trouble for trying to curse Courtney Wills over getting a better test score than her during lunch time, which really didn't help that people already distrusted her due to her not being Christian.
She enjoys reading and writing poetry.
She was always the one with a crush on somebody else, and Betty would help her try to woo whoever it was, but she did find it annoying.
She became That Friend That Leaves You Over Summer Break after 8th grade, where she had a small growth spurt and got boobs, so her mom took her shopping for brand new, much more trendy and stylish clothes.
As a Freshman, she had a huge, embarassing crush on Kurt Kelly that went unreciprocated. Instead, she ended up getting a lot of attention from Keith Zarchen and Doug Hilton.
It was dating Frankie Larson that made her decide to swear off high school guys forever by junior year.
She dated a couple college guys, including guys named Johnny and Martin.
But also by junior year Kurt Kelly had decided he did actually like her, and also got a big, annoying crush on her that this time she does not reciprocate.
Between sophomore and junior year, Heather Duke convinced her to cut her hair, probably to sabotage her but it ended up suiting her really well.
