Yesterday on July 13th, 2026, ICE agents shot and killed 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. He was shot and killed at an intersection with his wife and 3-year-old daughter as witnesses, and his last words were “I was trying to stop.” ICE agents dragged him out of the car after he had been shot and handcuffed his dead body. Guerrero, an immigrant from Colombia, was a legal United States citizen and had been issued a Social Security number. He was not the target of the the original ICE investigation (though, to be clear, had he been and had he not been an United States citizen this would still be horrific and it’s important to make that known). ICE claimed that he had tried to escape the arrest and also weaponized his vehicle, neither of which was true, and both of which have also been used to justify other murders at the hands of ICE. The name of the agent has not been released and none of he officers were wearing body cams.
Joan Sebastian Guerrero worked as a delivery driver in Biddeford and was incredibly loved by his community, which also has a lot of other immigrants. This is coming after Senator Susan Collins (a woman currently up for re-election in Maine) has claimed that ICE has permanently exited the state. This is the eleventh ICE shooting in the United States since the beginning of 2025.
I highly encourage you to donate to the family’s gofundme, found here.
