Love and Grief
I have a thought on grief: The heart is like a house, and everyone you love has a room in that house. The room has all the love, memories, pain, and grief. The room (the grief, and love within) doesn't leave or diminish, it stays the same, and when you lose someone then you learn to live with the pain, it doesn't get to be less but you learn to cope with it.
The heart also has infinite rooms, so loving one person doesn't mean you can't love others. For every person you bring into your heart, a new room is added to accommodate them, it doesn't have to reduce your love for others.
I've found this to be true with pets as well, it's why I don't feel guilty getting a new one to love immediately after the previous dies. It doesn't change the love and memories of the previous pet, and so is respectful.
