In the movies, almost every time Legolas speaks in Elvish, Aragorn responses in Elvish. So I like to headcanon that he does this because when they were younger, Legolas used to visit Rivendell and they'd just speak in Elvish the whole time- also Aragorn is aware that perhaps Legolas is more comfortable speaking in Elvish than he is Western.
