“Early in the Game”  Sophia Narrett

Skeletal embroideries by Georgia-based artist Phaedra Hudson (a.k.a. BrerFlyCrafts)

Phaedra is a self-taught fiber artist with interests in anatomy and scientific diagrams. She home-schools her two daughters and science is the household favorite class.

“Our neighborhood does not have sidewalks or large yards for kids to play in. When our children were young, I spent a great deal of time sitting outside with other parents. I began embroidering as something relaxing to do while keeping an eye on the children. When thinking of subject matter, I was drawn to the biology diagrams and skeletons that always fascinated me. I embroider on white cotton so the background doesn’t distract the viewer from the subject matter, making them appear similar to posters. I want to encourage others to see the beauty in nature and biology and not to think of these subjects as gross or disgusting.”
