Built in 1841 by Dr Farquhar MacCrae, brother-in-law of the diarist and artist Georgiana MacCrae, it was occupied for most of the 1840s by that legal luminary Redmond (later Sir Redmond) Barry until Dr Arthur O’Mullane bought it in 1852 and set up his practice there.
Later it was used by the Cameron Tobacco Factory and then by the Metropolitan Mission

St Kilda, formerly High Street, back in 1870–1875 and was renamed as part of St Kilda Road.
ALBERT PARK LAKE & S/E SUBURBS. MELB. 1953 ‘Airspy’ aerial photograph taken on March 18 1953 from above Albert Park Lake and looking over Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs. The lake is 3 kms south of the city. Originally part of the Yarra River flood delta it was converted to a recreational lake in the 1880s. The Junction Oval and St Kilda Junction are centre picture with a view to nearby suburbs such as Balaclava, Ripponlea and Elsternwick - and on down Brighton Road/Nepean Highway all the way to Moorabbin and beyond. To the left (east) of the lake is the Albert Park Golf Course with Queens Road to its east and St Kilda Road further east. The oval at the top of the lake, this side of the Junction Oval, is the Ross Gregory Oval. Fitzroy Street and St Kilda Railway Station can be seen centre right. The large complex to the right (west) of the lake is the Albert Park Military Barracks. This was established in 1943 to house thousands of World War 2 troops.
