Portrait of William Blake, 1820
John Linnell
Sketch
William Blake died on 12th August 1827.
The story goes, he told his wife: "Kate, you have been a good Wife. I will draw your portrait." He sketched her at the bedside, then threw the paper down and sang "Hallelujahs & song of Joy & Triumph... He sang loudly & with true exstatic energy and seemed, too, happy that he had finished his course, that he had ran his race, & that he was shortly to arrive at the Goal."
