And sorry to compare, but the Bevin fandom does seem to be worse than the Benrex and Benrook one currently. And I’ve seen some terrible trash ass people from the last two. But at least I’ve seen some Benrook fans directly call out other Benrook fans but too many Bevin fans still have the “she’s in the way of my ship” mentality like that’s not a weird way to view female characters. And so many of them think it’s progressive or brave to be hypercritical of female characters while coddling the male ones as if that’s not the norm in every single fandom. Electraslight was saying the craziest shit about female characters and no one was checking him because people love having them get put down in order to put male ones on a pedestal.

Ben can get Kevin mutated, insult him, never apologize much less help or support him whatsoever, have the show never address it or hold him accountable, criticize Kevin in In Charms Way, call him a jerk while Gwen defends Kevin and felt guilty about being upset, but it’s only Gwen that people are gonna have a problem with on here because it’s somehow solely her job to help him and “she’s not doing it correctly”. Gwen has 2 Ls, that are also some of the many Kevin’s Ls mind you. But despite Kevin getting his shit rocked more than anybody else combined, he gets excuses, less criticism, and no one on here is calling him dead weight or a forced inclusion (which totally doesn’t sound like a dog whistle). Can’t even share scenes of Gwen doing cool shit cause people still whine about her being “useless” even when she’s competent.

Ben mistreating Julie gets excused because the problem has to be just her or them not being compatible because nobody can admit that Ben is just a bad boyfriend. Or people are cool with it because it must mean that his true love is really Kevin. Or Ben never liked Julie and was cheating on her with Kevin this whole time.

People will think it’s funny to say that Kevin, a white man, is actually the real dad of a dark-skinned native child because “fuck Kai” or whatever. I’m not moved by people just admitting she faces racism but are quiet when mutuals say questionable if not straight up terrible things about her. Even outside of fictional characters, it’s crickets when people are just racist in general.

however that raised questions in me. like.

why the fuck is Gwen with the omnitrix always 10.

the answer is cartoon network trying to milk the shit out of nostalgia OFC. But at the same time... the original Gwen 10 AU ended with Max getting the watch thus transitioning that universe from a Gwen 10 one to a Max 10 one.

so here I am your least favorite Mug of Root Beer in the Ben 10 fandom grasping at straws and things that aren't meant to mean more then the surface level corporate decisions once more.

examining Gwen's character's, Natalie's demands for her and Examining No Watch Universe we can really simmer away all the effects that the omnitrix brought on Ben and by proxy Gwen. and then we Can look at the Omniverse Gwen 10 AU and start to build up a character profile of Gwen as the Watch Wielder without Ben that has Previous/Outsider knowledge of the watch.

Just like Lucky Cat I do not think Gwen would be keen on telling anyone about the Omnitrix or her hero powers and seeing as she is more reserved with her powers she would probably be able to actually keep it hidden, while max splurged out something about "it's so weird we keep seeing alien on our journey and just when Gwen is away." and Gwen looks at her watch and goes "Ah... so they're aliens." anyway. Back onto why all Gwen 10's are stuck being 10.

I honestly don't think Gwen would be able to handle the pressure of being in the same Role as ben through alien force & omniverse. Which I don't mean as in she can't handle that much pressure like that, she very much can, it's just not the type of pressure Gwen is very good at handling. Which is self image/self worth related pressure. Once again I will recall the Time Heals episode and how Gwen carried herself there.

I think almost all Gwen 10 universes are doomed to turn into diffrent watch wielding universes purely because this isn't the fate for Gwen. While I don't like predetermined, chosen one storyline I feel like it is purely the difference in environment that made ben the best choice out of the 3 tennysons.

Gwen while calculated, reserved and cautious is also really self doubting and unable to really flaunt and own the Hero aspect. If/When Natalie finds out about her Heroics she'd probably just add to her self doubting and how she isn't a proper hero because of this and that. That with her continuous back tracking habit, and really poor self image by UAF, plus the distance between her and grandpa and if Gwen never told grandpa she is an alien superhero that gap would never mend. UAF would be a much weirder time for Gwen, grandpa max randomly goes missing for a couple months comes back later with a prosthetic arm. Does Kevin in happen in Gwen 10 au? And if it does how?

Max while experienced and the one who the omnitrix was intended for because of both Xylenes and Azmuths acknowledgement of his character, is out of his prime & also at least in OS. Really prone to random bursts of Violence?? he is also very secretive which is both an upside and a downside. because if secret of the omnitrix explosion was happening Max wouldn't be very forth coming with it. in Omniverse he is a space policeman so that immediately makes him unreliable, because he is so much more reliant on the letter of the law. Also as a more experienced person he is much more likely to take drastic measures.

Ben's really the best shot the omnitrix has as a tool of heroism and symbol of heroics. Because Ben trusts people, Ben's character up until the watch hits his wrist is what the omnitrix was built for - someome who is understanding & gives second chances, but also someone who doesn't stand for injustice. Sure he has his character flaws, and is a little self centered & a ragamuffin. But he is also fucking 10 bruh.

Gwen's mentality is much more close to Knowledge & self doubt.

I love Gaen to death and some of my ben 10 mutual on tumblr are working on amazing Gwen 10 aus, with this analysis I am not saying - hey Gwen can never be the wielder of the omnitrix I am trying to figure out, exactly why is it that no canon gwen is older than 10?

Self doubt is a more prominent thing with Ben than it is for Gwen. I think they both handle pressure pretty well, but Ben’s confidence is attached to the omnitrix for a good chunk of the series.

Gwen was very sure of herself before the omnitrix appeared and even after. It takes a certain level of confidence to see what looks like a monster and try to fight them off. I’d say her self doubt was a thing at all because it was Ben specifically who got the omnitrix, he was able to do all these really good things with it, and get celebrated why she was overlooked. She questioned whether or not she was really doing enough which was kinda sorta resolved (or forgotten who knows) before classic ended. But if she had the watch herself from the jump, I don’t think this would be a thing. I think she would attach her worth to the watch kinda like Ben does, but still not as much.

Ben felt like he was nothing without the omnitrix and this continued into season 3 of alien force.

When Ben lost his watch again, he felt like it was over and there was nothing he could’ve done to help. He had to be convinced by Gwen and Azmuth that it wasn’t just the watch that made him a hero.

Gwen hated that Charmcaster took her powers, but instead of staying hung up about it, she came up with a plan to get them back on the spot. When Sunny appears and when Ben is really popular at her University, she feels more comically annoyed than doubtful of herself. Even with her mom she seems to brush off or not unpack the weird way she talks to her. She didn’t think she personally wasn’t good enough for Bancroft, it’s that Tiffany was putting her down. Time Heals was stressful as hell for her, but she did push through to make things right again.
