hi!! here’s another short sneak peek since I haven’t posted in a bit, just a little something I worked on quickly. I love hearing your guys thoughts, so far I’m loving the feedback ! this is a small glimpse of yearnon, I hope you enjoy <3

It wasn’t until two weeks later, during the night of Megan’s birthday, that she saw first hand how well they hit things off.

Sophia and Lara’s apartment was filled with faces that Manon had only seen once or twice, either being introduced through the girls themselves or classes she’d shared with these people in college. The place was packed. Some were off to the side dancing, some were talking in different corners, some were over by the drinks table. It was loud, crowded, and buzzing with energy.

Manon was standing against the counter in the kitchen, nursing a cup of whatever drink Daniela had made when Megan sauntered over to her, eyes blown and giggling to herself.

“Manz!” She yelled, throwing an arm over the older girl’s shoulder. “Come on! We’re doing a group photo.”

Manon barely had a second to register any of Megan’s words before the ginger was pulling her with her, the drink in Manon’s hand almost spilling out the cup. She laughed lightly, mumbling slow down into Megan’s ear, and quickly placed the cup on a nearby table. Before she knew it, she was standing in between Megan and Sophia, squished against both of them as they tried to fit into the frame of the camera.

Megan’s arm that was wrapped around her shoulder fell onto Sophia’s shoulder blade, pulling her in closer. And that caused her to be right up against Manon, so close that she could feel the warmth radiating off Sophia. She looked over, just for a split second. The way Sophia laughed, carefree and unapologetically herself. Her wide smile that lit up the room. Plump lips glistening from her signature lipgloss.

Manon felt her throat dry up.

She blinked, shaking herself out of her daze, and wrapped her left arm around Megan’s midsection. Her right arm slipped behind Sophia, fingers hovering over her hip. She wasn’t quite touching, not yet. Her hand was just there. Unsure. Clueless on what to do.

With one final breath, she pressed her hand down on Sophia’s hip. The fabric of her shirt was soft, and grounding, reminding Manon that this was just a photo. This didn’t mean anything.

The group photo was taken in less than thirty seconds. All six of them tried different poses, a video of them yelling happy birthday, Megan! and a shot where Megan insisted on being laid across their arms, holding her up.

When they were done, Sophia didn’t bat an eye in her direction, and Manon felt cold air wash over her. The girl brushed past her, right into the direction of a waiting Yunjin, and when she did, Manon caught a whiff of her perfume. It permeated her senses, her breath stolen, because it reminded her of what they used to be.

Her eyes followed Sophia, watched as she stumbled into Yunjin, giggling, pressing against her like she belonged there. And that—that was the final straw. Manon’s breath was knocked out of her, heart constricting like someone had reached into her chest and squeezed.

Some part of her felt dizzy, which evidently, Daniela had noticed, still standing by the girl after the others had flocked off. She placed a hand on Manon’s shoulder, eyes filled with concern.

“Hey, you okay?” She asked, moving her head so that she was eye to eye with Manon.

The Ghanaian nodded, “Yeah.” She mumbled, though it was weak. She tried again when she noticed the subtle twitch in Daniela’s eyebrow. “I’m fine.” She said, voice firmer now.

Which, of course, was a complete lie.

Manon was far from fine. Because Sophia was still there, in her peripheral vision, talking with Yunjin like she was the only person in this room. Because her heart reached for Sophia like flowers straining towards the sunlight, knowing they will never touch.

“I’m fine, Dani.”

And when Manon brushed her arm off, all she could do was shoot her an unconvincing smile, and try to find something to distract herself.

aahha this sounds like a great idea!!

unfortunately I’ve already outlined/have an idea of what the meichae storyline would be :( its kind of like a past meizini/present meichae thing, because I wanted this universe to be maphinz/meichae/lariela endgame, but hey you’re on the right track about yoonchae kickstarting manon’s yearning lol

I will admit this could defs be something I write in the future with both dani and megan pining after yoonchae 🤔 I’m always open to more ideas if you guys want anything written !!

thank you!! I’m so glad you liked it <3 tbh I haven’t written anything in a good while so I felt a bit nervous about my writing lol, but I’m happy to hear people are excited for this :D

as for au/non au, I decided to make it an au (maybe after college) so I could build a whole series/universe around it, if that makes sense…

mmmhh I was skeptical of this since I haven’t fully planned much, and I didn’t want to share anything that potentially might not make it into the one shot. however, this actually forced me to sit down a write a lil smth smth so, thanks anon!

this is a short scene taken from the beginning of the one shot, as in, not too much has happened plot wise, so I think this is a good enough sneak peek. but I hope you enjoy!

“How did you guys know you liked each other?”

Manon paused, her breathing stiffened. She sat up straighter, looking directly at Yoonchae who had the most genuine look of curiosity on her face. And part of her felt bad, because Manon didn’t really feel like answering. How do you explain something like that when your ex was right beside you? How do you explain it without losing yourself in the memories of what once was?

The rise of awkward silence was stretching out for far too long. Manon swallowed down her nerves, mumbling out, “…What?”

Yoonchae’s eyes widened ever so slightly. “I—I mean… if it’s okay to ask.” She stuttered out, head ducking down once she’d seen the look on the older girl’s face.

She continued on, cheeks flushed and sheepishly smiling. Her hand waved around absentmindedly. “I just wanted to know, like, what… what were the vibes? Before…”

Manon didn’t say anything. She wasn’t entirely sure what she could say, if she was even allowed to. Sophia hadn’t said a single word since the Korean had dropped her question, and she hadn’t made any indication either that she’d respond.

So, Manon opened her mouth, slowly, carefully reviewing her words. “Uh, well—”

And then, without any warning, Sophia had spoken. Her voice cut through whatever awkward tension hung in the air. She’d spoken with such grace, as if her words wouldn’t have an effect on Manon. As if, subconsciously, she was still that girl dating her, and they were simply recounting their pre-relationship days.

“It felt like electric jolts.” She murmured. Her eyes were glossed over, looking somewhere past Yoonchae’s shoulder. Then, she turned her head, hesitant at first, but soon her eyes burned directly into Manon’s. “Like… every action was charged.”

Manon felt her breath hitch. Her heart stuttered in her chest, taking in Sophia’s words. She hadn’t looked away, not when Sophia was practically staring into her soul.

For a moment, everything was silent. Sophia looked at her like she was seeing her for the first time. Manon felt trapped, her own stare carrying the weight of everything she couldn’t say. Yoonchae sat painfully still; watching, observing. And if she did move, well, neither would have noticed, too wrapped up in one another.

Manon opened her mouth, but all that left was the tiniest sound of gasping for air.

you aren’t alone anon I think both of them yearning is so beautiful esp since they go about it in different ways LOL

in this one shot I’m planning, I can totally see sophia convincing herself she’s over manon but her actions are the opposite of her words, almost like unconscious yearning? she doesn’t realize she’s doing it and nobody in the group points it out bc its a pretty delicate situation

yeah I feel like yearnphia is a lot more cautious when it comes to her feelings and the people involved, the last thing she’d want is to hurt anyone

yearnon on the other hand… well, I think she’s a bit different in the sense that she can be a little reckless, throwing caution to the wind. it’d be her mission to get sophia back even if she’s bringing everyone down with her
