The mission was supposed to be a simple one; get in, take out the members of Talon that had assembled there for reasons Junkrat hadnât been privy to listening to, and get out. It took a walloping five minutes for a carefully calculated plan to become shit hitting the proverbial fan.Â
He had been separated from Roadhog, something that tended to have anxiety crawling up his spine in the best of situations, and been hit by a rouge bullet while trying to duck for cover. His comm was broken, his legs were weak, and now it seemed as though the only saving grace being given to him had to be from her. Jamison had tried and tried and tried to get on Meiâs good side, but every quip, every joke, every attempt at any sort of pleasant conversation had always been mercilessly shot down.
Mei simply didnât like Junkrat, and Junkrat couldnât be bothered to care all that much about it. Well, until now.Â
The sound of gunfire rang loudly in the air around them, and the blonde had to force his focus on the otherâs lips to understand what she was saying. âSheila,â Junkrat began with a laugh that paled in comparison to his usual mirthful crow, âI didnât survive all those years in tha Outback anâ beinâ chased âround the world by coppers ta die here.âÂ
A sharp sting of pain had Jamison wincing once more, his torso straining to rise and fall with laboured breaths. Fuck, at least he didnât think this was how he was supposed to go out. Dying from a single bullet wound to the abdomen? Definitely not as flashy as he would have liked.
Junkrat took a moment to think - to dig into that twisted mind of his for some sort of solution. They were both out in the open and as much as âRat hated to admit it, Mei was looking to be his only shot of getting out of this mess alive. He heaved a weary sigh and locked amber hues with her deep brown gaze. He had survived before and he would do it again.
âAlright,â now was not the time to worry about anything else other than making it out of this hell hole with his life, âIâm gonna need ya help in walkinâ, I think. Lost a decent âmount a blood and me legs feel like being right pricks about it.â He paused, eyes scanning their surroundings for any sort of cover. There was a half demolished wall not too far away; Junkrat was sure that they could both make it there with hopefully as little effort as possible. Mei was⌠small. And Junkrat? Well, he stood well over a full head over the other. This would be⌠interesting, to say the least.
âHelp me up, weâll take cover behind that bit a wall over there, and for the love of god, please tell me your communicator is working.â
âSo âyouâll play this smart?â Mei asked hopefully, jumping each and every time she heard a gunshot in the background while looking rather tense at the situation around them. As Morrison told her time and time again, she was no soldier. She was no fighter. She was a scientist, but a scientist who believed they could help so time and time again put herself on dangers doorstep for a chance to make the world a better place.
Even if that meant hauling this rats ass out of here.
Mei listened carefully to his plan, though unlike the other she was unable to keep eye contact. She kept on looking over her shoulder, hands soon fiddling nervously at the hem of her gloves while Snowball silently floated overhead.
âI donât have a better plan, so Iâll do my best!â And then take a shower later as it sure as hell didnât look like the other had taken one recently. Gross.
âIâll be like a brick, a brick with legsâ It probably wasnât the best analogy but she figured that bricks were pretty sturdy, something that wouldnât easily break under pressure and soon she knelt down, patting her shoulder again and ready to help him up.
âYou can count on me and my working commsâ She then gave a little wink, to try and uplift the situation before looking like she was ready to fold in on herself when remembering who exactly she was trying to uplift the situation for. Heck, maybe if she did this heâd listen to one of her lectures on being a better person for once.
But probably not.
âReady?â
