In 2005, Cory Arcangel bought a used computer at a Salvation Army store in Buffalo, New York. Originally he was attracted to it because of its rarity: the Macintosh TV was a rather badly designed, half-hearted hybrid of a Macintosh Computer and a TV set, that performed neither of its designated functions very well and lacked any cool things that might come from the synergy. The machine was a commercial flop, only around 10,000 units were produced during a few months between 1993 and 1994.
This is the computer we had in our house when I was growing up and it was amazing.

I wrote a piece about why the key to saving the internet's future might lie in the past.
Uh, do you mind if I ask what kind of animal you have posted to your About.Me page? I don't think I have ever seen anything like it and I don't know how to Google "cute, fuzzy, pinkish-orange tree-dweller" and hope to get the right animal.
Amazing email I just received. For the record, the answer is the remarkable golden brushtail possum:

Honored to deliver this question from Nick:
Mr. President, my name is Nick Dineen and I attend school at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I was the Resident Assistant for the floor that George Chen lived on last year as a first year college student. I knew him. Elliot Rodger killed him and 5 more of my fellow students. Today, another man has shot and killed at least one person and injured three others at a private christian school in Seattle. What are you going to do? What can we all do?
I was surprised that David chose to ask this question yesterday, given that it is arguably "off topic". I was even more surprised that the President provided an answer that was equal parts candid and pragmatic. Here's hoping that we can expect more unscripted, deeply-felt real talk like this in the next two years. This right here is the Obama that I voted for.
got to watch david karp interview the prez at the white house today--big thanks to @tumblr for the invite. (at The White House)

There’s no doubt that many of Tumblr’s 83.1 billion posts are hard to read, or make your cursor spit out sparkles and rainbows like it’s 1999, but at least these pages appear as their creators intended. Posts on Medium, on the other hand, are near-objectively beautiful and legible, but do they not tease a world where every book is bound in the same leather, and printed on the same paper with the same margins and typefaces?
Sparkles and rainbows forever, y’all.

Plenty of whimsical retro-futurism at the below link, though I was especially taken by this 19th century imagining of the Roomba, which needs to be led around the house by a telephone wire. At least we manage to exceed expectations every once in a while. (via France in the year 2000 | The Public Domain Review)
