I want to do more in this world than just live in it.

How glorious the splendor of a human heart that trusts that it is loved.

And you make jokes because you’re afraid to take anything seriously. Because if you take things seriously, they matter.

If each man or woman could understand that every other human life is as full of sorrows, or joys, or base temptations, of heartaches and of remorse as his own … how much kinder, how much gentler he would be.

This is true joy in life, the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.

…And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.

The proof of conversion is not perfection, but our on-going struggle to grow in holiness & our gradual progress in the things of God.
