Last year when I bought my Japanese 3DS, both Mega Man 5 and 6 weren't out on the US eShop. I was impatient, so I decided to get one just so I can play 6, as I never played much of it before. But the reason I was very excited about the Japanese system is because Rockman World 1 and 2 were already out, and as I type this, all 5 titles are available on the Japanese eShop. (The US eShop only has the first abysmal game.) Rockman World, as it's titled in Japan, is the Game Boy series of the franchise. I find the naming structure used in the West very confusing: Mega Man I, II, III, IV, and V. Basically, Mega Man 5 is the NES game, but Mega Man V (roman numeral) is the GB one. I don't know how this passed certification. I decided to jump directly into RW4 today, as I haven't finished the series yet. I finished RW1–3 last year, and I wanted to play 4 and 5 first before dialing back to 1, as I've been eager to try them out. Those two are regarded high by fans. This portable series does something interesting: In RW1, you fight 4 robots from Mega Man 1 and 4 robots from Mega Man 2. In RW2, you fight the remaining 4 robots from Mega Man 2, and 4 robots from Mega Man 3. And so on, with RW3 hosting robots from MM3 and 4, and RW4 from 4 and 5. However, 5 uses a whole different system. I'm going to talk about that when it's time. I'm four bosses into RW4 (beaten Toad, Bright, Pharaoh, and Ring) and I particularly enjoyed Ring Man's stage much more than I initially expected. To me, the original stage in Mega Man 4 is—hands down—the crappiest level in the Classic series. Again, I have no idea how it passed testing: four (!!!) mini-bosses, unfair design in the first half, and a downright annoying boss. Quick Man was fearsome but vulnerable, but Ring Man is just cheap. Whenever I replay Mega Man 4, it's the first stage that gives me a headache and reminds me of how much I dislike the whole game. So far, I find RW4 easier than 3, though much more enjoyable. Looking forward to continue playing.
