Damn never thought I'd be in the whining and whinging crowd because these devs get way too much fucking shit but I hate FR's loss of ID with this overhaul. Big huzza for the state changes (hover states my fucking BELOVEDS) and the art updates but the choice of fonts and some of the restructuring is really leaving me baffled. It's like giving googoo gaga Apple-store guardrails to Linux enthusiasts.

#like apple design is amazing #there's a reason why iOS works SO well for so many people #but FR's identity is old school web vibes #old school web was inherently tied to personalization and character #i get WHY they went for universal readability but you lose so much flair when you do that #there's gotta be a middleground #idk maybe i'll get used to it

do you have any tips on how to improve rendering? I always feel like my renders don't look very smooth

Experimenting with brushes, and honestly? Time! Rendering certain materials just takes a while.

I use a lot of textured brushes when I'm in the early stages of a piece. Helps create a base 'wash' and visual noise early that can carry over once you start tightening things up more later in the process. I gravitate towards watercolour and blown up pencil brushes early, switching to actual paint brushes mid-way.

Not sure if this is what you're dealing with, but when I had to deal with less 'smooth' or muddy rendering in the past it ended up being an unclear value range and a lack of well-planned rimlights/shadows.

I really want to run another one in the future, I enjoyed it immensely. So cool to see everyone's takes on the same lineart. Now that I started being okay with AU or non-FR world canon dragon tabs I really wanna make up a small world with like... opposing fairies and goblins + adjacent magical critters that fit that world. Where the goblins are swampy/fruit/vegetable related creatures with darker greens and more contrasting colour palletes, and the fairies are more floral/pastel/fairy or celestial themed. Go really ham into the power of friendship, simplistic dark-light theme for 80's-90's 'classical' fantasy tropes like what you'd see in Labyrinth or the Dark Crystal.

I LOVE when dark/evil fractions get to look like they've been gathering dust in the closet for a decade or are just unapologetically, cackling mean lil' guys, and the 'good' guys are naive and sweet idiots.

Not the type of storytelling sandbox I get to play in at all, because in my head everything I have to make needs to have 'layers' or 'depth' and can't be one-dimensional, but idk, doing an AU with the complexity of a my little pony toy commercial for the vibes and aesthetic sounds like so much fun to me lol

I have like a million skin and accent ideas for this, especially for hatchlings. Got into the idea after I started collecting G1s to make a pumpkin patch themed lair tab, but I prefer them being creatures/characters, and not just a dragon with pumpkins slapped on top, or just a dragon that looks like an object/pumpkin.
