Today is International Women's Day 2023 and as a woman in a leadership position, I'd like to address a few words to the male-dominated cannabis community I've been a part of for six years now.
Unfortunately, women are still a rarity on the executive and board of lifestyle and medical cannabis companies. I certainly appreciate intelligent and dedicated men, and they are welcome to be young, to ironically serve a stereotype here. However, I have to admit that the imbalance irritates me a bit, probably also having to do with my background as a biologist. Because too much male way of thinking brings a different culture and point of view, which can become one-sided and does not take into account all aspects of a society, so to speak, brings the natural ecosystem out of balance.
In nature, a balance is usually quickly found, but in companies, it is imperative that committed women also take on leadership positions.
For me, it's not about quotas or feminism, but about the biological balance we need to establish. It is the most natural thing in the world for women to help shape things, and I go into my daily tasks and functions with this self-image.
That is why, on the occasion of International Women's Day, I would like to encourage young women in particular to aspire to leadership positions, to assert themselves and to live the individual dream.
I realize that my words may seem facile depending on your culture, country, and personal history, but I still want to encourage you to champion your cause as I do, to not be discouraged, to not turn away, and to continue to advocate strongly for your values and vision.
I am convinced that together we can create a world that is free of prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination, that is diverse, equal and inclusive. A world where differences are valued and celebrated.
As CEO and co-owner of Medropharm AG, I am happy to lead by example in an industry dominated by men.
Let's work together to advance women's equality and shape a future where women are represented in all areas.
