New Compost Program Strives Towards a Greener Campus
.The new composting program "Panther Pails," run by UWM's Garden and Compost Operations Assistant, Nina Hartwig, takes food waste to the Sandburg Garden Hoop House to create nutrient-rich soil.
Panther Pails is an opportunity for students and staff to get involved in composting and take a bigger look into how much food they waste.
Most of the food scraps used for composting come from the Sandburg café, but students are also able to help by filling up a pail with food scraps themselves and dropping it off at the Hoop House.
Student-workers and participants work hard to assist the composting process and help nutrients go back into the soil rather than in landfills where they could potentially never break down.
