TW- all fics have different levels of child abuse/or neglect in them. I do not condone child abuse by any means, but I love stories of recovery and healing from trauma. Life can be hard, be negative, and full of hate, but on the other side Life is beautiful, with many joys and triumphs, and so much love. Life is not binary, it is not black and white. Life is a mix of greys in my opinion. With the abuse their is often a great bit of fluff in some of these stories, but other stories focus more on angst, magic lore, adventure, or academics at hogwarts-to name a few topics. Enough of my speel, I might add others to the list later, and feel free to comment other Severitus, or mentor Severus stories in the comments.

Harry Evans- by Artistic_Gamer. A wonderful fic about Snape noticing Harry is wearing a glamour. This fic is quite angsty and very compelling. The author is extremely skilled at negotiating complicated dialogue and is excellent at Snape’s voice. Harry is also brilliantly done.

Crime and Punishment and Snape’s Promise by Melocasti. Crime and Punishment begins with Harry being accused of a crime he didn’t commit and Snape being the one to deal with it. Snape’s promise includes Dumbledore realizing the Dursley’s aren’t suitable and asking Snape to take in Harry. This author is stunningly skilled. They’re voice for Harry is so perfectly canon and their storytelling skills are mesmerizing.

The Wizards Nephew by Kat_o_nine_Tails. A fic where Snape hides Harry away directly after Voldemort’s death. It’s so sweet and the author has a wonderful skill with writing small children as well as insightful depth into traumatized adults.

To Recollect the Future and Far Beyond a Promise Kept and The Definition of Home by oliversnape. To Recollect shows Harry walking to meet Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest and waking up in his eleven year old body, quickly followed by running into Snape. Far Beyond is more about Snape and Harry seeing eachother for who they are and Snape realizing he can help Harry more. The Definition explores Harry grieving just after Sirius’s death and Snape finding him. This author writes some of the most excellent human feelings, their characters have depth and life and find new and interesting things about themselves as the story unfolds.

Prisoners by Whitetail. A de-aged Harry who’s magic quite literally begs him to handle his grief. It’s gut wrenching and gorgeous and the skill with which this author looks at disability and grief and small children, it’s just poetic cinema. I wish I could erase my mind and reread this again.

My Little Runaway by BlueRowley. This fic looks at Harry’s child abuse and a young Harry having taken matters into his own hands, which leads to Snape finding him. This author has such a sweet young Harry and a struggling, but handling it Snape. They’re way with writing interactions is effortless and I envy them tremendously.

Punishment by Ananke. Mr Filch finds Harry’s punishment after Mrs Norris’s petrification lacking and handles it himself. This author has such a skilled way with handling tension and fear in a twelve year old Harry and are utterly brilliant with their descriptions.

Whelp I and Whelp II by Jharad17. Whelp I looks at a young Harry being saved from an abusive household by Snape, and Whelp II is part two. This author is just, I have no words, the way they portray the lovely relationship between Harry and Snape is gorgeous. Their skill with writing the repercussions of child abuse and how Snape learns to help Harry is both heartbreaking, but so lovely for Harry.

Allergic to Potions by Cordria. Harry has a reaction to a magical vaccine and ends up spending part of his summer with Snape. This fic is a bit less about Harry and Snape changing their dynamic, but it’s gorgeous all the same. The author creates an eerie and frightening world for Harry to find himself in and has such excellent technique with their interactions. I would adore to explore their world just a little longer.

A Thousand Words by Ailee17. This beautiful fic shows Harry finding Snape’s friendship with Lily early on and discovering quite a bit about his mother, while Snape discovers Harry’s home life. This author utilizes beautifully slow and wonderful techniques to allow characters to interact. Their style of writing is so insightful in its treatment of Harry’s background as well.

Okay! I've been scouring my accounts on ao3, ffnet, and p&s and I have a few here that I favorited (and I like your subtitle convention, so I'm gonna use it, haha)

O Mine Enemy by KirbyLane (the one with the seer dreams) -- When Harry finds an injured Snape on his doorstep and must hide him from the Dursleys, he has no idea that this very, very bad day will be the start of something good.

*Alternate 6th summer/part of 6th year. Ignores HBP and DH. Uhh, some blood in it? Nothing terribly graphic

**probably my favorite of the bunch. I think this was the first long (61 chapters) HP fanfic I read and it's sooooo good. I cried multiple times, it hit me right in the feels so hard! I also think everyone is written really well--Snape is still Snape, but the change in character/relationship is believable. (I may or may not have re-read this over the last couple days 🤫)

The Choices We Made by JewelBurns (the cancer story) -- What if you could change your biggest regret? After a devastating event occurs, Snape from an alternate reality is given that chance, but ends up in the canon universe. Will he be able to gain back what he's lost while helping to save the wizarding world at the same time?

*AU post OotP, mentions of cancer, leukemia, medical descriptions, grief/mourning, good Dudley Dursley (for a positive note!), Dramione

**Another of my favorites, oddly enough. There are things I read in this that live in my head rent free now, like "green (but not Slytherin green)". So... it deals with cancer. Which is heavy. But the developing relationship is great. Again, the characters are well written, even though this isn't Canon Snape, but he has to step in and start living that life, which is interesting. Harry and Draco become friends, which I liked a lot (Has a currently ongoing sequel that I need to catch up on)

Resonance by GreenGecko (the auror training one) -- Year six and Harry needs rescuing by Dumbledore and Snape. The resulting understanding between Harry and Snape is critical to destroying Voldemort and leads to an offer of adoption. Covers year seven and Auror training.

*ONLY on FFdotNet, "PG-13 for occasional violence and very roundabout romantic references" Harry/Tonks and Harry/ofc (trying to do this by memory as there's no tags 🤷‍♀️)

**It's been a little longer since I read this one, but I really enjoyed it. I love my two boys and their found family. Harry turns very studious iirc and I liked it, haha. The auror training stuff I found very interesting. First part of a trilogy, sequels are Revolution and Resolution. (I started the second one like immediately and got a little burnt out on it, so I haven't finished it yet. Still good tho!)

Namesake Necklace by WiCeBa (the deaged!Harry one) -- Harry and Dudley are attacked one evening and Snape is called to fix it. A child sized Harry, who looks much more like Lily than James at this age, was not what he was expecting.

**this is one of the few deaged stories I've read (I'm kind of meh on the concept, depends on the rest of the story), but I enjoyed it. Sirius is a little, uhh... overprotective, but it thankfully all works out. Harry inherits an ugly beautiful shell lamp from his mom and Mama Prince is in it and I like her a lot, haha

That's what I have for now! I'm currently re-reading The Last Will and Testament of Lily Evans Potter, bc I had it saved and I am having a slightly different experience on re-read. I'll report back, lol. But yeah! I loved quite a few of the ones you already recommended (it still breaks my heart that Second Chances never finished, but I will re-read it forever). There are a lot of one-shots I like that don't QUITE fit the bill, sort of more like moments of understanding between the characters.

Oh! And I will say I hope someday you finish reading AYLNO. I enjoyed that one so much! The ongoing sequel is pretty good, but it's another one I need to catch up on

Notes: there is one exchange between Severus and Petunia which some people may read as Severus admissions that he dropped the branch on her intentionally, however, neither of them refers to any specific event, so I’m more inclined to think that Severus is actually trying to annoy Petunia. I find it more offensive when he says that it’s Lily’s death that turned him away from Voldemort, when in fact he goes to Albus Dumbledore much earlier than that.

Carry That Weight (A Long Time) by PazithiGallifreya

In which Severus survives, to everyone’s surprise, it appears that he and Harry are related by blood. And of course that Severus is in denial. Truthfully, so is Harry for some time. There are a few more things that Severus must learn to accept.

Notes: It’s slow paced and takes a bit of time for Harry and Severus stop dancing around each other and meet face in face instead. It’s not Snily (fear not here, Lily is mostly mentioned in connection to “how did it happen?” When I first read it, I found Severus a bit harsh at times, but the feeling disappeared when I reread it after rereading the books. The fic is actually a part of a series, so if you (general you) liked the fic, you may like the companion pieces, too.

Notes: I think that the main reason I did read the fic and why it stayed in my memory is because from the beginning Severus’ feelings for the Potters are constructed differently (it’s as if he had a chance to deal with the past trauma), so his will to care for Harry doesn’t come out of nowhere. Still enjoyable even if very AU.

Starts short before Harry’s sixth year. During his visit in Gringotts Harry finds a Pensive in his vault. The memories he sees in it shake his whole world. For once, it appears that his father is not what he thought it was.

Notes: Very AU and old (I think it was written before the sixth book came out), for it assumes Severus to be a pureblood. Very Snily for flashbacks. It’s the first part of a trilogy actually, but I liked this story the most. I like how Harry and Severus build their relationship in it.

Digging for the Bones by Paganaidd

In which a tragedy happens at Hogwarts at the beginning of Harry’s third year and in result Harry is removed from the Dursleys’ care. And somewhere along the way he finds a new family.

Notes: I’m a bit wary of putting this one on the list, mainly because I don’t remember the details of it. I know that I did not delete this one after I reread it after rereading the books, but the details of the story escape me.

Trigger warnings: child abuse, a child death because of abuse, attempted suicide, self-harm (I think)

In which Harry finds a new caretaker and new family at that after he gets hurt in accident caused by Vernon Dursley. Starts before the 6th year, ends after the war.

In which Severus Snape travels in time in order to fix some things and save his beloved wife’s life in the process. Of course he dumps Harry on his younger self, too.

Notes: Not Snily. I won’t tell you who his wife is, because it spoils everything. Features Severus’ parents - no worries, they aren’t bad. There is continuation of the fic, too, but I couldn’t get into that one :/

The Art of Forgetting and Forgiving by Scorpia

Two stories. In the first one, every year Severus visits his son in Privet Drive, but erases the boy’s memory of the meeting afterwards. In the second, Severus saves Harry’s life many years later, after finding him half dead.

In which a tragedy happens at Hogwarts at the beginning of Harry’s third year and in result Harry is removed from the Dursleys’ care. And somewhere along the way he finds a new family.

Notes: I’m a bit wary of putting this one on the list, mainly because I don’t remember the details of it. I know that I did not delete this one after I reread it after rereading the books, but the details of the story escape me.

In which Harry finds a new caretaker and new family at that after he gets gurt in accident caused by Vernon Dursley. Starts before the 6th year, ends after the war.

Notes: another one of these I read too long ago to remember, but clearly good enough to make an impression on me.

Undoing the Past by LadyLanera

In which Severus Snape travels in time in order to fix some things and save his beloved wife’s life in the process. Of course he dumps Harry on his younger self, too.

Notes: Not Snily. I won’t tell you who his wife is, because it spoils everything. Features Severus’ parents - no worries, they aren’t bad. There is continuation of the fic, too, but I couldn’t get into that one :/

The Art of Forgetting and Forgiving by Scorpia

Two stories. In the first one, every year Severus visits his son in Privet Drive, but erases the boy’s memory of the meeting afterwards. In the second, Severus saves Harry’s life many years later, after finding him half dead.

Here is a masterpost of my personal favorite Severitus Fanfics. I don’t really know the difference between Severitus and Sevitus (and honestly I don’t care) but these fics are ones where Severus either rescues, adopts, mentors Harry or is Harry’s biological father. I know this is not all of the Severitus works out there, but these are my personal favorites. Enjoy!

I remembered the other day that I had Sirius live with Snape and Harry in animagus form after he escaped from Azkaban.

And it got me thinking… Knowing Sirius and the absolute shithole he can be… It is absolutely not below him. You can’t change my mind.
