i was watching the grumps power hour today and when this happened i immediately thought of these dapper dorks  

I have the absolute certainty that if I hadn't read the book before the movie came out, I would have been team Peter the entire time. And that's a mistake.

The movie fails portraying Peter as the asshole he was in the book, and I should have known based on how perfect they made him in the first movie. It really makes for a cute romance, but I would have LOVED if Peter was an actual human being, and not just the internet boyfriend everyone wants. He was horrible sometimes, like when he made fun of the stutter of John Ambrose —his former best friend— (a scene that was way worse in the book), or when he deadass asked Lara Jean for the necklace (in the movie is more of a result of Lara Jean mentioning it and he looks like a sad puppy the whole time).

The absolute worst thing was that it took away Lara Jean's real emotional turmoil. In the book, it is key that Peter constantly lies and hides things from Lara Jean, specially when it has to do with Gen, and that hurts Lara Jean every fucking time. I wanted to murder him when he insinuated Lara Jean was crazy for thinking Gen spread THAT video —knowing full well that it was the truth, and not caring at all about Lara Jean's feelings. The fucking nerve.

That's why it was so easy loving John Ambrose, who was gentle, truthful and had actual things in common with Lara Jean. They had fun together all the time, while with Peter, Lara Jean always felt like she wasn't enough and had to force herself to even have a normal conversation. But then again, that's why John is marriage material while Peter is that high school boyfriend that will be necessary for Lara Jean to grow.

Anyway, the movie was fine I guess and we'll always have the book and that beautiful piano scene.
