christmas holiday in the bandito camps. yellow and green lights strung up around the tents. yellow scarves and yellow mittens. names drawn for secret santas except most gifts are handmade from the resources in trench (someone grabbed yarn last raid in the city and knitted a sweater). A group went out into the forest and cut down a hilariously large tree and dragged it out into the center of camp and everyone spent a day decorating it. crudely cut wooden ornaments carved with special messages and sayings and pictures. they urge the torchbearer to come out from his tent and engage with the festivities, come sit by the fire and have some chocolate, you’ve been in there all day. he rarely comes out anymore. the banditos go all out decorating the exterior of his tent anyways. the torchbearer does come out and try to join the group eventually, but with noticeable strain and fatigue and his joy feels forced. he hangs a wood ornament on the tree that simply says ‘covering you’ and no one knows what it means but no one asks. it’s been a hard couple of months and they know he will set out again soon. they have to make the most of what they have. they are cold out here but the warmth in their hearts, in their torches and in their hope keeps them going. happy holidays.
