He watched Jin intently as he chewed on the first bite. His eyes linger on him as he tries to read him. "Actually, it's cinnamon," he mentions. "But very good for catching the hint of it." Luka says with a smirk. "What do you think? Think my boss will like it enough to feature on this month's menu?"
āCinnamon,ā Jin nodded, and pointed at him like he was filing that away permanently. āOf course. That was going to be my next guess.ā It wasnāt, but cinnamon did make sense to come after nutmeg. āThey have the same warmth.ā He said, mostly to himself. He took another bite of the food before responding to Lukaās question. āYeah, I think this is good enough to present to your boss.ā He nodded. Honestly, the dish was incredible. But that came from someone whose idea of fine dining was the fancy noodle cup instead of the regular one. āAre they usually difficult to sway with new dishes?ā He asked curiously.Ā

Isabella kept notes of things that she would need to remember when it came to her clients, family, and friends food preferences. Jin was the only one whom lived in Turtle Bay that she knew of that was not a fan of seafood. She decided not to question it cause it was none of her business, she was just glad he was so upfront when they first met chuckling responding, "You are lucky I remember the small details cause I would have tried making you a salmon or tuna burger. I am trying that out on my next guinea pig." She smiled enjoying the sun on her skin.
She smiled at him, thankful he was hungry cause it meant the food was not going to be wasted. "How have the different places in town been for disc jockeying? I have only been to a few different venues in town that needed someone like you on the turntables." She turned on the grill and looked over at him. "Actually I am trying a pretzel bun and a Swiss cheese with a sweet, grainy, mustard. I hope it works. Fingers crossed." She answered him sipping on her drink.
āSalmon burger.ā Jin repeated it flatly, like it had been an insult. And honestly in his eyes it totally was. It did sound like something his mother would serve him, though, so he was glad that when he was a child she didnāt know about that kind of dish. āIād probably never show up to one of these things again if you tried to feed me that.ā He said it with enough of a smile that it was clear he was mostly joking. Mostly.Ā
He considered her question about venues for a moment while slowly turning the glass in his hand. āI mean, I only regularly DJ at Envy on weekends. But I have checked out some of the other places too, just to get a feel of them, you know? They seem pretty good. The vibes are always good. The crowds are very different from New York, though, a lot more relaxed.ā He was used to a different kind of energy when he was in the DJ booth. He didnāt hate it, of course, but it took some getting used to.
Jin watched as Isabella prepared the food, and nodded with a smile. āPretzel bun sounds like a good call,ā he said with the authority of someone who had experience in eating burgers. He had never tried pretzel buns before, but he was not opposed to it. āAm I the last stop before you present it to your boss?ā He asked curiously, a smile playing over his lips. āHow did it go with the last dish we tested, that was the raviolis, right?āĀ

Unusual Dinner Friends. š½ļø
Closed Starter: Kang Hyun-Jin @mconpoetry
Location: Isabella's Downtown Apartment Patio.
Isabella was wanting to test out a burger recipe before she took it to her clients. She had already had a few people be guinea pigs with it, she needed to make some slight changes and so far each change had made them better. The chef in her had all the fixings the two of them would want. And everything was all prepared so she could impress him with her grilling techniques having only made pastas and other dishes that did show that off like other things Jin had seen over time since they met.
Once he arrived and he got her something to drink from the bar area of her apartment, she walked with him outside. "I hope you are hungry, I am trying a new burger recipe and you are my next guinea pig, I promise no seafood involved. How have you been, by the way?" She asked as she started the grill.
Jin chuckled lightly as he followed her outside with his drink, settling somewhere he wouldnāt be in the way of her brilliance. āNo seafood is very much noted and appreciated.ā He told her and took to his chest with a warm smile. He sipped his drink, a red wine he had found behind her bar, and leaned back in his seat.Ā
āIām good,ā Jin said, which normally was a complete answer for him. But he had come to learn to open up more, especially to the people who fed him. āIāve just been hanging out, you know? Finding my feet in this town, doing some producing, some DJing, the usual stuff.ā He shrugged his shoulders, and looked up at her as she started the grill. āI am hungry, though.ā He promised and smiled at her. āSo, what changes are we testing out today?āĀ
a cheeky smile takes over luka's face and he quickly shakes his head at the mention of seafood. "nope, no seafood. it's rigatoni with white bolognese." he tells jin. "something i've been working on perfecting for a while now." his eyes linger on the food in front of them. "i'm curious if you can tell what hidden flavour i used."
Jin offered Luka a smile and nodded, immediately reaching for a fork when the dish was marked safe from seafood involvement. āIt smells really good,ā he said. Jin took a moment to take in the dish for a moment before taking a bite from it. He chewed slowly and set his fork down while he thought about it, which, probably looked more dramatic than he intended it to be. āHm, is it nutmeg?āĀ

The phone call had ended so abruptly that Adam thought he'd hung up by mistake. He tore his phone away from his ear, stared incredulously down at the flashing 'call ended' on screen, and thought expressly, about throwing his cell into the ocean, if only it mean he'd never have to hear from that pompous piece of shit media executive ever gain.
"Fuckin' asshole-" he mumbled into the lip of his take away coffee cup, fiddling absently with the cigarette tucked behind his left ear.
It was only then he realised he had come to a stock still stop in front of a church. Scowling, Adam pursed his lips and stared up at the sun blotting cross on top of the spire, adjusting his sunnies as to not blind himself. Technically he was Catholic, though very severely lapsed.
"-think if I ask God super nicely he's smote someone for me?" Adam glanced at the random person beside him "-they're a multi-millionaire so like, it's not like they're a real person anyway."
Jin had recognised the voice, the hair, the stance. Of course Adam of all people would be in Turtlebay. Jin had come to learn that no matter where or how fast he ran, crumbs of his past seemed to follow him. He couldnāt really decide if he was happy to see Adam or not. On the one hand, he had talent oozing out of his bones. On the other hand, he was absolutely insufferable. But so was Jin, so who was he to judge. He had been standing there with his cigarette for about thirty seconds before the other man had even noticed him. Heād heard the tail end of the phone call ā hard not to, really.Ā
Looking up at the cross he thought about the otherās question for a moment. āHistorically, the smiting request success rate is pretty low on Godās side. But knowing you, I think you have the knack for doing it yourself.ā He said, unable to hold his tongue around the other. āBut since itās a multi-millionaire... he might be more eager to help. Who knows.ā He shrugged his shoulders.Ā
āWhat brings you to Turtlebay, Mozart?āĀ
"okay hear me out..." luka's face forms into a smirk. "i came up with this new recipe and i want you to give it a try and let me know what you think. i need to perfect it before i give it to my boss." he nods. "so think you could try it and let me know if i need to change anything?" @turtlebay-starters
Jin watched Luka for a moment before giving a nod. Yes, absolutely would try whatever free food was put in front of him, actually. Anything to get out of cooking for himself. āHit me with it, big boy.ā He said confidently. āWait, thereās no seafood in it, right, because I might be allergic.ā Jin was definitely not allergic to seafood, but he would not eat it ā even for free.Ā

Honestly Cameron wasn't expecting this. Seeing his neighborhood at his bar but he was fine with that. Just would make the stories that he made up even funnier. "Surprised to see you here." He joked lightly, while looking over at him for a moment. "Figured you would be somewhere else tonight." In his mind, he thought that Kang was a stripper at Whispers but he could be wrong.
"What can I get for you tonight? Whatever you want it is on the house. Just cause you aren't that bad of a neighbor." Even though he did get in late from time to time but it seemed like Kang got in later than him at times.
Jin had picked this place specifically because it was conveniently placed in his neighbourhood, and it looked quiet and cozy. He recognised the man that greeted him in the vague way he recognised most of his neighbours, by silhouette and hair rather than face.Ā
Jin tilted his head slightly, giving a confused but polite smile. āSomewhere else? Is there a HOA meeting or something I wasnāt informed of?ā Mentally, he was going through his calendar to check if there was somewhere else he was meant to be instead of here, enjoying a drink. He was not in the habit of ditching plans, so it would have been very out of character for him if he had missed something.
āUh,ā Jin snapped back to the moment and sat down on one of the stools by the bar. āIāll have a glass of red wine. Any is fine.ā He had come to love most red wines. āYou donāt have to do thatā¦ā He started, but offered a grateful smile. āBut I canāt turn down a free drink, so Iāll let you. Is this your bar?āĀ

Her dark eyebrows shot up, "no? Scaring people is a pretty big component of the dark." Emmie quickly put her hostest smile back on, following Jin's gaze out of her peripheral vision. She nodded with a light chuckle. "That's a party! - Did someone put you up to this? Hide in my barn, watch how my party goes, then report back?"
Jin blinked. He hadnāt thought about his position in the barn as anything other than āI need a five minute breather away from peopleā. He had figured it would be creepier if he stood far away from everyone and just watched the crowd rather than go somewhere out of sight. He didnāt really know anyone at the party, which was why he had pushed himself to go when he saw the open invitation. He wanted to get to know the people of the town he had moved into after all. āNo one put me up to anything,ā he promised, ābesides, Iād be a terrible spy. Iāve just been standing here, disassociating.ā He glanced around the barn briefly as if to illustrate how unstrategic his position actually was.Ā
Jin looked back to Emmie. He had noticed her earlier. It had, frankly, been hard not to when sheād been moving through the party like it ran on her personally. Which, he supposed, it did. āYouāre the hostess, right?ā It wasnāt really a question. āHow is it going from your end? And why are you hiding in the barn?ā He gave her a playful smile.Ā

The Whom: Andrew Callahan & ??
Where: Ace Hardware
Andrew was looking down at something when he heard the bell above the door. Tucking the pencil behind his ear now, he smiled at the person. "Hello and welcome in, what can I do for you today? Looking for something specific? Or lookin' to start a project?" He questioned with that smile still on his lips. "Whatever you need, I'm your guy to help or get materials for you."
The bell caught him by surprise. For some reason he hadnāt anticipated it as he pushed the door open, lost in thought. He took to his chest, mumbling a few cusses to himself under his breath as he let the door fall shut behind him. He looked around. Hardware stores had such a particular smell to them. He kind of liked it! Jin looked to the man behind the counter when he greeted him and offered a polite smile. He had only a vague idea what to do in a hardware store, thanks to google, so he was grateful for any help he could get. āUh, Iām setting up a shelf in my basement,ā he started as he stepped closer to the counter. āAnd I need to, you know, fasten it in the wall so all my paint doesnāt fall down and make me want to move cities again, I quite like it here.ā He smiled. āThe wall is concrete, what do I need?āĀ

Gabe had come into town for one simple errand, something out of his new normal that he expected to run smoothly. Apparently, that was too much to ask, because as he exited the place that hadn't had what he needed anyway, he stumbled into some fresh hell, sprinkled with vaguely familiar faces. The familiarity was probably more related to the fact that he'd lived here for formative decades than it was to anything else. Still, he was automatically too irritated to parse out what was happening, asking the first person he could find. āPlease tell me thereās a reasonable explanation for this, because Iām fresh out of patience.ā
Jin had been watching whatever this was for about five minutes before anyone spoke to him. He had been on his way to pick up some art supplies when he got distracted and stopped. Hands in his pockets, he leaned back a little as he took in the scene with the curiosity of someone who had absolutely no stake in the outcome. He was a newcomer after all.Ā Jin glanced at the man whoād addressed him. He took note of the slight irritation in his tone, and honestly, he could understand it very well. āIām not entirely sure whatās going on,ā he said honestly. āIām new in town, so I donāt know everyoneās business yet, but I think maybe it started with a dog. Or a cheating husband, Iām not entirely sure. The details are murky,ā he said thoughtfully.Ā
@turtlebay-starters Sanders Ranch Mother's Day event
Emmie moved like a bride down the aisle, every few steps she greeted guests with a warm smile and a 'thanks for coming.' She threw up her hand in a wave a few times, her other hand tightly wrapped around a glass. Her cheeks ached from carrying the big grin. She just needed a few seconds. Looking over her shoulder before ducking inside the little shed/barn feet away. Emmie gasped and jumped back after she bumped into a person. "Holy fu - you scared me!"
Jin had not meant to startle anyone. He had actually slipped into the barn to avoid exactly that, and to breathe for a moment. He had wanted to not be a nuisance, and here he was being one. Jin took a small step back, giving her space, his drink still in his hand. Heād been leaning against a pole in the dark, doing absolutely nothing, which, in retrospect, probably made this a lot worse. āIām so sorry,ā he said and meant it. āI didnāt mean to scare you. I just needed a minute.ā He glanced past her towards the door, the muffled sound of the party carrying through. āThere are a lot of people out there, and as lovely as that is, you know,ā he gestured vaguely He didnāt really know how to end that sentence, so he took a sip of his drink instead.Ā

Juno had found herself still adapting to the small town she had sent herself to. It was almost daunting to not be surrounded by city noise. Since she could actually hear the silence. The red head tucked her long jacket tighter around herself as she walked down the boardwalk, taking in that sea air. Perhaps her therapist had been correct in her needing to be away? The redhead found herself staring out at the sea, completely lost in thought- so much so that she hadn't heard the other person beside her, not realizing she was in their way. "Hm?" she then wondered as she came back to reality and out of her head. "Am i in your way?"
for: @turtlebay-startersstarters
Jin wasnāt usually one for day time walks, but he was sure as hell not going down to the boardwalk at night. Thatās when the scary stuff in the sea would grow legs and run after him for sure. That being said, the boardwalk itself was scary enough with its groups of giggling teenagers, seagulls diving for food from unsuspectingĀ people, and loose floor boards.Ā
He hadnāt really planned on saying anything. He rarely did, especially to strangers on boardwalks. But the board she was standing next to had caused his soul to leave his body by shifting under his foot not thirty seconds ago. āBe careful,ā he said, and pointed down towards the board just to her left. āThat one moves.ā He turned and pointed to one closer to the stairs leading back to the sidewalk. āThereās another one over there, but it felt more like a gentle warning instead of this vibe check from god.āĀ
