they say that i'm insane

     ❝ hey, it’s okay. just breathe easy, okay? we won’t talk about it, just take slow breaths and think about good things, right? like your song. your song is sounding really good, mo. ❞

     ❝ y-yeah, my song is sounding better... ❞ she sniffles softly, playing with her hair. ❝ not as good as yours, though. ❞

     emmett tentatively reached out and wiped a few tears away with the sleeve of his hoodie. ❝ i’m sorry, moira, we don’t have to talk about anything that you don’t want to talk about, okay? ❞

     “ th-thank you, emmett... “ she sniffles again, trying to calm herself down from the anxious high that she’d reached. “ i do appreciate it. not many people are quite so... understanding. “

     worriedly, emmett moves to the seat beside her comfortingly. ❝ shit, mo… i didn’t mean to make you cry, i’m so sorry… fuck… ❞

     ❝ i-it’s not your fault, don’t be sorry... ❞ she wipes her cheek with her sleeve, taking a moment to breathe. 

     emmett looked down and nodded, flinching a bit. ❝ point taken… ❞ he said, running a hand through his hair.

     ❝ i-i’m sorry, i just... ❞ she looks more upset now than she was before. ❝ it’s not something i can... talk about... ❞ she sniffles a little - she didn’t want to seem weak, but fuck, now she’s thinking about it and she just wants it to stop.

     emmett continues to watch her worriedly, leaning in a bit to lower his voice. ❝ mo, it’s just us… what’s up…? ❞

     another laugh, and she moves to playing with her hair instead of her fingers. ❝ really. i don’t want to talk about it. ❞ she’s becoming uncomfortable - she shifts in her chair, waiting for him to stop. 

“ but then i’m going to be very curious. ugh. just go ahead.”

❝ that’s true. well, let’s just say it’s not exactly legal,  but then again, what do i ever do that is?❞

“please tell me you’re not going to do what i think you’re gonna do. that’ll be very very BAD.”

❝well, what if i don’t tell you? will that make you feel better about it?❞

     emmett glanced up at her a bit. ❝ yeah, i actually have noticed… ❞ he said softly, almost worriedly. ❝ are, um… are you okay? like, i’ve seen you get really nervous during rehearsal and i don’t want to ever upset you or make you uncomfortable… ❞

     moira smiled a little, almost forcedly, avoiding emmett’s gaze at any cost as she toys with her fingers. ❝ i’m fine. i don’t know why you’d think that i’m not. that’s just absurd. ❞ she laughs, almost awkwardly. she doesn’t want to talk about this. 

     ❝ moira, relax, ❞ he says with a chuckle, sitting back down and kicking his feet up onto the table. ❝ first of all, it’s not like we have to be off book in two days. secondly, why are you panicking like this? you’re going to give yourself heart problems by the time you’re old enough to rent a car. ❞

     she sits down carefully, pulling her sleeves over her hands as she looks down at the table.  ❝ i just want to be as prepared as i can be. ❞ she chewed on her lip, laughing lightly to herself. ❝ and you obviously don’t know me very well. i panic about a lot of things... ❞

     ❝ i’ll give it back… ❞ he says before trailing off, another grin growing, ❝ after we take a break. because you need a break, moira. ❞ she couldn’t deny being overworked and exhausted. they were there hours after rehearsal. he could tell just by looking at her how little sleep she was getting.

       moira bit her lip before looking up at him, seeing the sincerity hiding in his eyes. ❝i... ❞ she sighs softly, smiling gently up at him. ❝fine. just a little break, though. i have to get my lines down.❞ she toyed with her skirt a little, still looking up at him. 

     he grins a bit wider as she continues to complain. ❝ it’s not that hard, you’re just exhausted and overworking yourself, ❞ he says softly, holding her script above her head teasingly.

     ❝c’mon, give it back!! i’m not overworking myself, i’m fine.❞ she pouts up at him, crossing her arms over her chest, not even trying to reach for it -- she knew she wouldn’t be able to get it regardless. 

     emmett chuckles, a small grin tugging at the corner of his mouth, watching the blonde for a moment before leaning down and grabbing her script for her. ❝ you’re awfully whiny for a tiny little thing. ❞ 

     moira huffs again, placing her hands on her hips and looking up at the taller boy.  ❝i am not that whiny. this is just hard!❞ she holds her hand out expectantly.  ❝but thank you for getting my script.❞
