Rookie Episode 6x01 - Review
For a show to be in its 6th season, and to have such a jam-packed season premiere. This was a great start to the season and I cannot wait to see what they will have for the next 9 episodes.
Things that I loved:
-Harper's reaction to the shooting: Her character has always been a hard-nosed nothing impacts her type of character. To see her impacted in such a profound way is amazing. I look forward to how this will play out for the rest of the season.
_ Lucy spiralling/Chenford fight: As much as many people don't like angst, but this needed to happen. Lucy is carrying a lot of baggage from her life. Lucy is a typical self-sabotager. I don't think she has felt secure in her relationship with Tim since Isabel returned. It opened a wound for Tim and created insecurity for her. If they are going to make it as a couple, they need to work through this. I think it was good that Tim walked away and didn't say something in the heat of the moment.
-Opening Action: I don't think I ever thought of The Rookie as an action show. It really felt very high-stakes and locked me in from the start. I hope they continue with the action, but keep it in check and don't go overboard with it.
Things that I didn't love:
-Last shift superstitions: I know that this is supposed to be the comic relief in the show, but I find that the superstitions are too much of a distraction. Especially, with Celina, I find it hard to believe that as a rookie cop, she is allowed so much leeway with these superstitions. Hopefully, they will tone this down for future episodes.
-Not knowing Anglea'Wopez's baby name: This was a small thing, but it felt off that we didn't find out Wopez's baby name. I figure we will find it out in the next episode
I am looking forward to the rest of the season, I am curious how they will be able to tell a 22-episode season story arc into 9 more episodes. Who is Monica working with? Will Aaron suffer PTSD? How will the shooting impact Harper? So many theories, and so many stories to unfold. From this first episode, I think The Rookie is gearing up for their best season yet!
