“Posso condurvi sulle sponde di un lago montano? Il cielo è azzurro, l'acqua verde e tutto è pace profonda. I monti e le nuvole si specchiano nel lago, e così anche le case, le corti e le cappelle. Sembra che stiano lì come se fossero uscite dall'officina di Dio, come i monti e gli alberi, le nuvole e il cielo azzurro. E tutto respira bellezza e pace. 

Ma cosa c'è là? Una stonatura s'insinua in questa pace. Come uno stridore inutile. Fra le case di contadini, che non da essi furono fatte, ma da Dio, c'è una villa. L'opera di un buono o di un cattivo architetto? Non lo so. So soltanto che la pace, la quiete e la bellezza se ne sono andate.

Perché al cospetto di Dio non ci sono architetti buoni o cattivi. Davanti al suo trono tutti gli architetti sono uguali.”

“Can I take you on the shores of a mountain lake? The sky is blue, green water and everything is deep peace. The mountains and the clouds mirror in the lake, and so are the houses, the courtyards and the chapels. They seem to be there as if they had left the workshop of God, like the mountains and the trees, the clouds and the blue sky. And it all breathes beauty and peace.

But what is it there? A stoning gets into this peace. Like a useless shriek. Among the peasant houses, which were not made by them, but by God, there is a villa. The work of a good or bad architect? I do not know. I only know that peace, quiet and beauty have gone.
