Last year, we made a bet to see who would be potty trained first, the baby or her.

If she wins, I will buy her a new car.

If not, she can’t cover up her diaper for a month.

Bb: Daddy, this diaper is overkill! We’re only going out to the park for a few hours! And there’s a cafe on the corner I can run to if I need to go potty!

Daddy: Babygirl, you say that now, but do you remember what happened last time we hung out without protection in the park? Someone got a little too involved with watching the dogs and didn’t know when she had to go potty? It was no big deal, but you know I hated seeing you cry as I walked you back to the car.

Bb: But that was last month and this month I have three dry days in a row on my sticker chart! And I will go potty right now before we leave.

Daddy: Three dry days is a wonderful accomplishment! And I think going potty before we leave is a great idea! But after that I’m going to tape your diaper back up. We can try pull-ups again after a full week of sunny dry days on the sticker chart. I know it’s frustrating for you, but I want to try those next steps when we’re in the comfort of our home, not when we’re hanging with friends and being distracted by all the best dogs at the park. Now, try to sit on the potty and I’m gunna pick out a good onesie to match with your sweater. We don’t need any waistbands sticking out while you’re running around.
