[ BEST NEPHEW EVER ] His name is Noh-Varr! We were on the same team but it wasn’t until he started taking me out to space with him alone that I really fell for him. I’ll have to introduce you to him soon since you’re in town? 

[ BEST UNCLE EVER ] do, too, kiddo. She’ll pull through. She just needs some time.

[ BEST UNCLE EVER ] It always starts that way, doesn’t it? Just as long as he’s treating you with respect and you’re not doing things I’ve done when I was your age.

[ BEST NEPHEW EVER ] How is she today?

[ BEST NEPHEW EVER ] When I’m not home I’m usually at my boyfriend’s place. Right now though? I’m sitting on a random bench with some french fries.

[ BEST UNCLE EVER ] Last I checked, she’s hanging in there. 

[ BEST UNCLE EVER ] HOLD UP.

“Well it matters to me. I need to know what lecture to give you before you run back out and do the whole thing all over again.” he replied dryly. Though they hadn’t known one another too long, Alph was pretty sure he had most of Pietro’s attitudes down; including his inability to keep himself out of trouble with the police. If they came knocking this wouldn’t be the first time he hid the man.

“Luckily for you I have some hanging around in the back.” Not a huge amount but the amount of stabbings who walked through his doors he went through it.

“So, are we just dealing with your smashed up pretty face or are you gonna tell me what else happened?” he asked, washing his hands in the sink, drying them and beginning to pull on some gloves, the movements practiced and efficient.   

Pietro settled himself onto the observation table, blue eyes watching the other turn away for a second to wash his hands and put on gloves. Hearing the other call his face “pretty” coaxed a half-smirk from the corners of his damaged lips. To know there was at least one doctor in the city willing to help him was more than enough to keep his attention. The flirtations were a bonus. 

Still, the intentions of his visit were not motivated by his desires to flirt with the doctor. The smirk on his expression faded, palms pressed against the edges of the table with a discontent sigh. His gaze shifted towards his feet, observing the tattered condition of his black trousers, riddled with tears and bloodied scrapes on his knees and ankles. 

“I overheard someone calling my sister a ‘crazy mutant bitch’ on the subway,” he explained, fists tightening and relaxing as he spoke. “I got upset and well, here I am. The guy was lucky I don’t have my powers. I haven’t seen her since-”

Evening came in the city and the streets were surprisingly dim. He heard the faint sounds of people jeering in the nearby bars, adjacent of the building where his clinic was located. Keys tucked into his pocket, he reached for his phone to check the time. 9:06 pm. 

Since his arrival in Star City, he made a promise to his sister to keep an eye on her home. She made the proposal and Pietro, knowing his sister was in the midst of a familiar heavy grief, accepted without hesitation. He had access to the home she told her about, which is where he had been staying. 

His thoughts came out of focus upon hearing what sounded like a cat. He cast his gaze down towards the sidewalk when he noticed the gray kitten approach him. She mewed at the man, earning a raised brow from Pietro. Still, he had a few moments to spare before he returned home. He took a knee and outstretched a hand towards the cat, soft whistles slipping past his lips. 

[ BEST NEPHEW EVER ] Someone impersonating you? Now who would be doing that … 

[ BEST NEPHEW EVER ]  I have no idea what you’re talking about! 😇

[ BEST UNCLE EVER ] Well, if you see him, tell him I’d like to have a word with him.

A fresh set of keys were tucked away in the front pockets of his dark blue scrubs. His meeting with the landlord was, dare he say, quicker than he anticipated. Regardless, the lease was tucked away in his safe in his new office, adjacent to the front desk of the clinic. In some ways, the process almost seemed bittersweet. 

Seven years ago, he wouldn’t have considered the thought that he’d reach a different path in his life. Oh, past Pietro would have scoffed, projecting the last bit of cockiness he had, and proclaiming he was ‘past the point of no return.’ The evidence to prove otherwise was right in front of him. At least, it was in its early stages. 

Out in the hallway, Pietro glanced over at the other nearby practices, sucking in a breath. Disbelief could hardly describe his sentiments towards the sight of the front door, not yet engraved with his name and practice. Nonetheless, it was his own. And to know that most of his family was in the same city, there was a sense of renewed purpose. 

Even though it had to have been just over a year since he’d begun this new life, it still struck him as strange and novel in different ways; some good, several bad. But one that fell decidedly into the ‘good’ category, was a cocky idiot by the name of Pietro Maximoff. They’d kept things casual, they both couldn’t afford to give anything more; but their little affair certainly provided a break from the usual gloom of treating people where he did.

“I do wish you wouldn’t bleed on that chair, it’s the only good one I have.” The other he’d collected over the past few months; one was a damn plastic lawn chair, but it did the job.

“Get your ass into the treatment room before I change my mind.” Alph said lightly, a little smirk on his face, “Fighting cops again and getting you butt handed to you?” He asked, specifically because he was told not to.  

Few were kind enough to offer some sort of pity towards the depowered mutant. In regards to Alphonse, his sarcasm was almost reminiscent of his own. Like a poor fool, he was convinced to rely on a strange doctor to offer him treatment with little regards to his reputation. The sentiments were hard to believe at first, and yet, Pietro had nowhere else to go.

Pietro raised a shaky palm over his mouth, thumb brushing back some of the blood from his bottom lip. Standing from the aforementioned chair, he made his way towards the treatment room. The pain in his legs slowed his pace, hissing through clenched teeth every few steps.
