Nev Schulman And Max Joseph Pay Tribute To Catfish Star Found Dead
It has sadly been announced that Ashley Sawyer has passed away at the age of 23 with her cause of death currently unknown.
Ashley appeared in the second series of MTV’s hit show ‘Catfish’, appearing in the same episode as Michael Fortunato as the pair had been “catfishing” eachother for several months.
One month after their episode aired in the states, Michael died at the age of 26 following a pulmonary embolism.
Hosts of the show, Nev Schulman and Max Joseph, have each paid tribute to Ashley, with Nev hoping that she and Michael were together “where nothing can hurt them”.
Sharing a heartfelt post on Facebook, the TV presenter wrote: “Some people are just too fragile and beautiful for this world. So sad to hear about the passing of Ashley Sawyer today.
"Her and Mike were both such amazing people who struggled through so much. Their lives were short but filled with courage and love. I like to think they are together now where nothing can hurt them. Sending love to them and their families.”
Max shared a photo of himself with Ashley on Instagram, adding: “Shocked and saddened by the death of our friend Ashley Sawyer who appeared on Catfish. She was so sweet and so kind and had an incredible heart and spirit.
"It was wonderful catching up with her a year ago pictured here. Hard to believe she’s gone. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Rest in peace Ashley.”
MTV confirmed the sad news in a statement earlier in the day, announcing: “MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Ashley Sawyer has passed away. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.”
Ashley most recently appeared on a 'Catfish’ catch-up episode last year where she revealed that she had been living in a sober facility after struggling with drug addiction.
