[Bravoman - The Origin of Bravoman Writer: Matt Moylan / Artist: Dax "D-Gee" Gordine]
Iâm so happy I went through the whole thing today. It does not disappoint.
In addition to the roughly the first half of the series being there (duh), thereâs also writer and artist commentary and behind-the-scenes bits under most of the strips! And a brief history of the series and Namco at the...
Thanks for the great review! Hopefully Bravoman can make it to vol.2 :)

I also found this in the graphic novels section, which was pretty rad.
Cool! What store?

Lil Formers #202: Windblade by MattMoylan
itâs funny because powerful women obviously only exist in our wildest dreams
Keep on keepinâ it classy, Lil Formers.
Wait, sorry, I typoâd. Drop the âclâ
hurr hurr your identical skillset is more ridiculous because you are a lady  <âthe actual joke
Thereâs nothing about gender being a negative in the strip. It is only pointing out that Drift has finally been out-fan-fictioned.
She is âout-fanfictionedâ because, as the strip specifically calls out, she is a girl and a jet. Â Setting aside for the moment whether âfanfictionyâ is an insult or not, why is being a woman more fanfictiony? Â What makes being a woman a trope? Â Arenât girls, like, 51% of us? Â Is there more than one dude Autobot jet? Â Yes? Â Do we do comics about how we roll our eyes at new dude Autobot jets? Â No? Â Then why is a lady jet something we single out? Â
You draw enough TF commissions you see these details in fan characters a lot. Girl-seeker, badass loner, ninjabot with sword⌠or some combination.
Windblade is none of those. Â Zero.
Sheâs not a seeker. Â Sheâs got friends. Â Sheâs not a ninja. Â
(Also, as if there were any doubt that you were using âfanfictionyâ as an insult, your bit here clears that up.)
And for the record, no, I donât recall having been asked to draw a Transformers fancharacter for probably half a decade. Â Plenty of canonical ones, sure. Â The closest Iâve gotten is âOptimus Prime as a Green Lantern.â Â But being asked to draw ladyseeker ninja loners is not a trend I can vouch for. Â Â
Also David, not sure why you are having fun insulting me. The one time Iâve met you (maybe twice?) you seemed very polite.
Iâm not really having that much fun. Â I would have been super ecstatic to see a comic from you celebrating a new female character, rather than playing into how our society mocks and denigrates them merely for existing. Â I am WEARY of this. Â And I am pushing back against it because itâs stupid and itâs damaging and I donât want to see any more of it. Â The best thing I can say about it is that maybe you didnât think through the implications of what you were saying very well and, in the service of making an easy joke, have regurgitated the script culture has given us regarding how women characters are strongly suggested to be viewed.
tl;dr: This strip made me very very angry. Â Walky smash.
Nothing inherently positive or negative about the character or fan fiction in the strip, that's all your own inference. Besides the general 'roll your eyes', 'isn't our fandom silly' fun poking that msot everyone feels about fan fiction in general, I'd that the two of them are trying to one-up each other is gerneally positive. Windblade at least is happy to win and Drift is unhappy to lose.
Besides that I just felt like drawing some robots people were tweeting about Windblade that day, Â I made the comic because... she is undeniably VERY TF FANFICTIONY. I literally know nothing about this character beside the facts she states about herself in the strip. Samurai theme, sword, girl, jet. It's all I found out about her online two weeks ago (as far as I know she hasn't been in an media yet?)
Just google image search "Tranformers OC" and you will find a huge amount of them are female characters. And tons of them are jets. And plenty of times they are both. Other than that it's a pretty common that Mary Sue's are badass loners. The ninja/samurai/martial arts theme is also very common, as is giving your original bot or mary sue a sword.
There's nothing wrong with female Transformers characters. Arcee's kind of basic and doesn't have much personality, but Black Arachnia is one of the greatest Transformers characters ever.Â
Seems you're way overreacting to the fact she a female transformer, that if anyone make any kind of fun of her, it must be sexist. Gender is not that important.
The right amount of female transformers is... however many Hasbro decides to make. It really doesn't matter. If they make only one female Transformer character this year, so what? If they change it up and make 100% female Transformers characters next year, so what? MLP has mostly girl characters and that's fine, just as it would be find if they decide to make a new MLP line that has mostly boy characters. (either of those changeups would probably not be very profitable... but they are not morally wrong)
Sounds like you're angry because you WANT to be angry at something. But there's no malice here, mellow out.

ShiftyLook is ending and Iâm actually pretty sad about that.
I didnât know it was PLANNED but I guess it makes sense. Itâs cool to see all the concluding comics happen (especially Bravoman, thatâs the BEST fourth wall usage Iâve seen in a while). I guess Iâll look forward to print.
It sure was a good run though. My favorite was Galaga, haha
Well "planned" I guess in the sense that most of the Shifty creators were given enough notice that Shiftylook losing it's funding was a possibility, so we should write endings for most of the comics. I did actually plan two endings for the Bravoman final story, in case Shiftylook was successful in securing more funding.
Sucks to hear about ShiftyLook closing up. I wonder if thatâs what caused Bravoman to end so earlyâŚ
Pretty much. If it was up to us we'd keep making new Bravoman's for a long time yet.
