“Are you? I’ve been saying this for months…”

“Wanna say it one more time?“

“So the party at Magnus Bane’s didn’t go the best, but I really think we should try and reach out to the shifters again.”

“Human or animal?“

“You have something to say?”

“I’m pretty sure jeans and a blouse would have worked wonders too.“

“I was going to suggest warding the whole underground so that any rat who tries to enter where they’re not welcomed gets fried, but all the warlocks in town seem to be on the fritz,” 

“I like your idea, Diana. Get a team together and make it happen.“

“Was a moron?” She finished his sentence and took a sip of her drink, looking back out at the crowd.

“I couldn’t have said it better.“

“Sadie, I’ve been meaning to bring something up to you. With Zoe gone I need someone to take her place. You know I’ve incorporated Petra into our business but there’s still a few people that are... You know because of her early relationship with Rhys. Zoe being by my said kept a balance.“

Petra watched the faces of the crowd to search for any signs of discomfort, of weaknesses. She marked each off in her head as Jacob continued to speak.

After the murmur of agreement settled and the crowd dispersed Petra stepped behind Jacob and spoke in his ear. “I found you a new supplier for your glass. Come with me.”

“Yeah. What’s up, Petra?“ Jacob gave everyone a finally look then followed after Petra. 

“Yes. Now I have the first week’s reports from Damon and Cory for you.” She looked down at the paper and let out a small sigh. “There’s also something in here about Zoe.”

“Damon and Cory reporting?“ Jacob frowned. “What’s going on?“

“I understand perfectly,”

“Good.“

“You’ll hear no objections from me,”

“You should stop trying to butter me up. First the shower and now saying everything I want to hear.“

“That’s very poetic. But if I need to be down here “relaxing” so do you.”

“Whoever said you’ll relax when you die...“

“Why not?”

“I’m rebuilding a broken, torn down and infested establishment. Along with the broken down people within.“
