ok guys I’ve always thought about this but I’ve never seen anyone else talk about it so I’m finally asking,

Do animals exist in the Pokemon universe?

there have (almost) never been shown to be actual animals in the Pokemon universe but the names of them still exist ex: “the electric mouse Pokemon” and that has been shown through a bunch of Pokémon’s descriptions. My original thought was that maybe the names of animals are used as general classifications? Like small rodents are generally called rats regardless of the specific Pokemon? But that seems like a pretty vague theory considering they have also said stuff like mouse as seen above, why would they (in universe) bother separating them that way? So again I ask, do animals exist?

One more thing I would like to throw into the discussion, this is actually what finally sparked me to make this post
