“Wait- wait, Miss Dameron.” Emma spoke to the other as they passed her. “Where did you get your coffee?” She asked, “It was empty when I was there.” 

“I mean, you weren’t talking to me which is practically the same thing if you ask me.” Lucas answered, as he moved around the room again. “And no, no puking. My stomach has been carefully taught to be much stronger than that.” In that he ate practically everything and it had given him a stomach like steel. “No, you definitely did not show me that! It makes me think we should have Chinese but I’m also feeling fully loaded fries or nachos too.” He mused, unsurprisingly being led by his stomach again. “Next time you have got to pick me up some.”

“Sue me for trying to get this assignment done on time,” Marzia replied in defense. “Carefully taught? Sounds like some sort of ancient art form,” she teased, chuckling brightly. “Okay, I promise to bring you back a set next time I go. Or if you can come with me you can buy as many as you’d like,” Mars added with a grin. “Let’s get fully loaded fries and nachos,” she replied, her eyes lighting up. “That sounds like a good time, doesn’t it?”

“You really shouldn’t have,” Oscar chuckled. “It might be cool but one of these days I’m going to get arrested for accidental arson and then it’ll all go to shit. So while I might have the better power for this one situation you’re way better off in the long term. Plus being able to recharge a phone battery? Pretty fuckin’ cool.” While he loved his powers, he did wonder what it would be like to have different ones. Tech seemed to be one of the coolest. “Nah, I don’t think so. The lake’s gotta be like four degrees, that’s not even that bad.” Then again he didn’t feel the cold like other people thanks to his powers.

“You’ll just have to be a little more careful I guess. Besides being arrested for accidental arson is much better than being arrested for deliberate arson. Am I right or am I right?” she pointed out with a chuckle. “Eh it comes in handy when I’ve been out drinking or something. Never have to worry about not being able to call for a ride home,” Mars admitted with a little shrug. “That’s easy for you to say, you can just use your powers to warm yourself up or something– can’t you?” Marzia looked out the window to the lake and back to Oscar. “Fuck it, let’s go. But if I get hypothermia and die it’s on you buddy.”

Josephine was glad that Mariza had inserted herself to the conversation- without it Josephine probably would have helped out without thinking much about it. She always had a rough time saying no to people, even as they walked away Jo felt a tad guilty. “Thank you. How do you just know what to say at any time?” Josie asked with a smile, “I have so much on my to do today, I couldn’t help even if I wanted to. Do I look like I have time?” 

“Of course you’re not a monster,” Noah replied. “Unless you make a very mean slushie or something.”

“A... mean slushie?” she looked to him curiously. “What constitutes a mean slushie in your eyes?”

“No I mean cookie dough just in general, not the ice cream. Plus it’s like 1 in 20,000 eggs are potentially contaminated with salmonella, and every year it decreases, so like it’s not that common to get salmonella from raw cookie dough.”

“I’ve always willingly took the risk, but it’s nice to know the chances decrease every year,” Mars admitted with a content little hum. “Now I want cookie dough... damn it. We should make some to go with our ice cream.”

Charlotte sighed with a shake of her head, “It’s fine, I’ll wait.” Charlotte joked to the other. “Don’t start being negative now, think positive. You can make it to twenty one without feeling sick. It’s like positive affirmations!” 

“I guess I could break my routine for you,” Christian replied to her. “If you agree not to keep me out all night or something.”

“Alright there old man, I won’t keep you out past your bedtime,” she rolled her eyes with a playful groan in Christian’s direction. “Happy? We’ll be back before you can say ‘bingo night’,” Marzia added in exaggeration. 

“I believe you! I just don’t want any surprises.” She laughed. “Well, I’ve been waiting for it and yet… no ring.” Charlotte spoke, holding her hand up as if trying to hint. “How many did we get up to last time? I think for sure we can beat it.” 

“Or- you could maybe finish mine for me.” Max asked the other with what he hoped to be a charming smile. “Though, even if you say no to that, I’m still tempted to say fuck the assignment and let’s go get ice cream. Because I firmly believe that happiness and mental state should come above education and I will plead my case to my professor if they ask why I only handed in half an assignment.” Max told the other. “Or maybe I can use the whole dog ate my homework spiel-… or I could cause a power outage… so many possibilities.”

“LOL– fat chance,” she blurted out in amusement when Max suggested she finish his assignment for him. “I just barely finished this one, I don’t have it in me to do another. I can try and help, but there’s no way I can write a whole new one from scratch,” Marzia then added a little more seriously. “I mean those are all fantastic ideas, but telling the professor the truth is probably the safest bet. Surely they’ll respect your mental health?”

Noah raised his eyebrows. “Not exactly,” he replied. “No, I can be down with brain freezes. I don’t mind the cold, but water on the other hand is a different story.”

“Not exactly?” she echoed back, hinting for him to elaborate. “I see. I mean a fear of water is pretty common among individuals,” Mars nodded. “Seriously there’s no need to worry, I’m not going to force you into a large body of water, especially if you don’t like it. I may be crazy but I’m not a monster.”

“Finally someone who shares my love for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. My mom thinks it’s so disgusting. I love chocolate chip cookie dough alone too. Salmonella? Who the heck cares!”

“Are there people who don’t?” Marzia gasped in response, looking genuinely shocked. “I mean, I’m pretty sure the commercial kind doesn’t have the potential to give you salmonella, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to sell it,” she added, unable to help but point that out.

“What? Of course not,” Christian asked with a light laugh. “I just don’t celebrate after every assignment. Usually I just take a nap.”

“Don’t get me wrong, naps are great–” Marzia began, shifting in her spot a little, “–but you’re unconscious. Shouldn’t you want to celebrate while awake and then nap after?”

“Hmmm, depends on the ice cream,” Grant replied. “If it’s mint chocolate chip, you can count me in.”

“Ice cream flavors are like children to me, or at least what I imagine some people towards children– I have a hard time choosing a favorite,” Mars admitted to the other. “So we can absolutely get mint chocolate chip. Ben & Jerry’s Baked Alaska pairs so well with it by the way.”

Josephine sighed as she looked up from her workbooks, “You know, just because I’m a technology fairy doesn’t mean I instantly know how to fix your phone.” Josephine spoke, always so focused within her school work that she never really liked being interrupted during her designated study period. “Did you try putting it in rice?” She suggested 

“Are you kidding me? You can’t just suggest a great idea like that and then take it back. I’m totally up for jumping in the lake. Let’s do it,” Oscar told the other, a mischievous smile on his face. “If you’re worried about freezing your ass off I can set myself on fire to warm you up.”

“God, I knew I shouldn’t have suggested that in your presence,” Marzia shook her head, chuckling to herself. “That’s so fucking cool you can just do that. I can like... help you fix your Wifi connection or recharge your phone’s battery?” she shrugged. “Man, I’m really going to regret saying yes to this, aren’t I?” 

“Whoop whoop!” Lucas fist pumped the air with a grin. “Which means you can stop ignoring me now, right? We can go out and do things. You’d be surprised how boring twisting around on this chair gets after the hundredth time.” Lucas chatted brightly. “All the food sounds good though, maybe a lightsaber battle or a night filled with mariokart.”

“Hey, I was hardly ignoring you. You are awfully good at making yourself hard to ignore,” she couldn’t help but point out, chuckling to ensure she wasn’t actually upset with him. “After all that chair twisting you’ve been doing, you seriously don’t need to puke? You’ve got a stomach of steel, Lukey boy. I swear,” Marzia tsked, shaking her head as if in disbelief that Lucas could have spent all that time spinning around. “Uh– hell yes to all of that. Did I ever show you those lightsaber chopsticks I bought off of Amazon when I was back on Earth? They even frickin’ light up, it’s easily one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.”
