Mary had a little class...

Time to make a card for our grandparents! All our children love their grandparents so much and one of their favourite events is Grandparents Day, when they are able to spend time together at school. They loved making these cards, and of course, creating these butterflies! 🦋🦋💟💟

The last two weeks have been all about our book: Pete the cat: 'Rockin' in my school shoes'. The children love singing along with the story and learning the vocabulary and flash cards. They are even working on their own Pete the cat story. So much fun! ❤️

Butterfly obsession! Last year's Ladybugs are now full blown Butterflies and they are loving it. Time to decorate the classroom 🦋🦋🦋

Here the children are painting the backdrop for the end of year show! Knowing they created it will definitely make it more special and memorable for them when they see it up on the stage. It’s going to be fun!

Sometimes I like to give children a blank page and a theme and see where their imagination takes them. Here the theme is Peter Pan and Neverland, and I think we got pretty much all the characters covered in these cute creations. Have a look!

Last week the children at art class made these cute little lions. Their motor skills are getting better and they are able to retrace their pencil marks with pen better each time.

This week we are talking about kindness and treating others with respect. Children don’t automatically understand the effect their words have on others and therefore inevitably will use hurtful words at times. It’s crucial to their social skills to learn to communicate nicely from a small age. This is an experiment on the power of our words that we will be updating as we go, that you can do at home as well. We have put plain rice in two identical jars, only that one is labelled ‘hate’ and the other is labelled ‘love’. Every day at Circle Time the children will take turns saying nice things to the 'love’ jar and mean things to the 'hate’ jar, and we will document the decomposing of each one weekly. Looking forward to seeing the results! 😁

Last week we sprouted broccoli, alfalfa, and sunflower seeds. The children kept a journal of the changes they went made each day as they grew. It was lots of fun to observe them and see the different parts of the sprout (root, stem, leaves), as well as understand how a plant grows. 😊

Happy Easter everyone! We had a lot of fun making these cute little chicks. Look at them hatch! 😀

Today the children learned a funny little story to learn their letter spacing. It was about a house on one floor (picture at top of page for reference). The house also had an attic, but only the mummies and daddies (uppercase letters) were allowed in as it was dangerous for small children. The children (lowercase a, c, e, i, m, n, o, r, s, u, v, w, x, and z) were only allowed on the main floor. They also had pets (b, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, p, q, t, and y). Their pets had long tails that got stuck in the attic or even in the dirty old basement, where not even mummy and daddy would go. The children loved the story and made a game of seeing which lowercase letters were animals and which were children. And look at their letter spacing! ❤❤

In this class, art and creativity play a big part of the learning experience! At art class this week the children created these breathtaking mosaics. They worked so hard and took forever to finish as they really wanted it to turn out well. Aren't they lovely?

We are looking at letter sounds and double consonant blends SS and CK and finding where they go in our vocabulary words. They thought it was like a treasure hunt and were so excited to see who found the sound first.
