contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid

A portion of people in the notes are like ‘but that makes you trans. That’s called being agender’ and another portion of people are going ‘this is how the majority of cis ppl feel and it’s NOT agender’ and personally I feel like both of them are missing the point here. Yes a lot of people identify as agender because of this feeling. Yes a lot of people with this same feeling still identify as cis. These are not mutually exclusive experiences and it doesn’t mean the agender people are secretly cis or the cis people are secretly agender. It just means they have very similar experiences of gender that they choose to conceptualize and label differently, and neither of them are mistaken or wrong to do so.

This is the reason that I love Lewis and Tolkien better than a lot if modern Christian writers, boiled down to a sentence. Their philosophy, roughly put, was that any object or idea or person was more than its chemical parts, its past, or its present. They saw sciences habit of defining something only by its composition to be detrimental or even soulless, so they emphasized the older idea of meaning and spirit and symbol in everything.

What is particularly wonderful about CS Lewis and Tolkien is that they were both academics, scholars. Hardcore nerds (although in different ways, they were like two ends of a nerd spectrum). They both believed in science completely. But not in scientism.
They saw science as a way to study the minutiae of the Creation, understand it practically, to know it as God created us to, and know how to take care of it.
And with all of their academic knowledge, all of their scientific understanding, they knew that what science can quantify and analyse is only a part of what the world is – and not the most important one, at that.

Ok, so a lot of ppl make fun of Jinx being jealous over Cait bcos it seems that like a dummy she misunderstands that they’re girlfriends and that she, as a sister, is not getting replaced by a girlfriend.
But the thing is she IS getting replaced.
When you think about it in terms of how unusual and unfair to Vi the situation is that she’s like 5 years older and yet she’s burdened with the full responsibility of caring for a mentally ill sibling, well- that could be a job for life. If Jinx took Vi on her offer to run away they’d have no one but each other, they’d co-habit and Vi’s whole attention would be consumed by managing/helping Jinx. Being Jinx’s caretaker is a full-time job and it was a full time job when she was Powder too. You don’t just stop being a parent.
Caitlyn represents Vi building her own life separate from Jinx, her younger sibling, like ppl in early 20s do. She’s possessive and jealous over Vi the same way kids don’t like their new step-parents or are jealous over other siblings receiving attention from their parents. Jinx is extremely needy, and you can see in how she doesn’t care about making friends and how she doesn’t care about romance (possibly ignores/is oblivious to Ekko’s crush) that she’s not in a mental state where she wants to mature and grow up. As a neurodivergent child she actually always needed more time to grow up than others, but she was forced to grow up too fast and it’s always through these really traumatizing experiences. Growing up is an extremely painful process for Jinx and so she holds onto being a child as much as she can, it seems. She wants and needs a caretaker still, and Vi picking an enforcer girlfriends isn’t even just about needing to share, it’s potentially building a life that Jinx can’t be a part of.
Hence, ‘replacing’ but not in the sense that Cait is gonna be Vi’s new sister but that she’s getting a new life, one where she doesn’t need Jinx anymore and will abandon her parental duties towards her, smth that Jinx desperately needs and relies on daily cos she’s still a teenager, and which is ultimately exactly what happens.
Yes! All of this! I think people overlook how young Vi was and how Powder was likely starting to struggle/had been struggling with mental illness that Vi wasn't equipped to handle.
