Blackfriars Railway Bridge // London

60 second daytime exposure of Blackfriars Railway Bridge. It is a railway bridge crossing the River Thames in London, which first opened in 1866 and was initially called the St Paul's Railway Bridge. Â It is the largest of only two solar bridges in the world (the other being Kurilpa Bridge in Australia).

Canary Wharf // London 150 second daytime exposure of Canary Wharf. Canary Wharf is one of the city’s two main financial centres – along with the traditional City of London – and contains many of the UK’s tallest buildings, including the second-tallest, One Canada Square

St Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge are illuminated during the twilight hours by thousands of little lights lining the length of the bridge. The Bridge famous for being destroyed by Death Eaters in the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie, spans the width of the River Thames, running from the Tate Modern on it’s Southern Side, allowing a short walk to St Paul’s on it’s Northern Side. Despite being named after the Millennium and initially opening in June 2000, it wasn’t until 2002 that the bridge was fully completed, it originally swayed side to side whenever there was heavy footfall, which required 18 months worth of re-working to counteract this. The bridge allows access to many of London’s most famous landmarks and tourist attractions, including the Tate, the Tate Modern, The Globe Theatre & the City of London School, the latter of which can be seen to the left of the bridge. St Paul’s Cathedral has dominated London’s skyline for over three hundred years, and as such has become not only much loved, but also massively famous. The most famous aspect of the Cathedral is undoubtedly its huge domed roof, as seen above. The famous dome almost wasn’t built, as Sir Christopher Wren’s sketches at the time showed a large pagoda like squire. However, when the King William III decreed that Wren could make some ‘Ornamental Changes’, many of which where made as construction progressed, the most significant of these was the dome which was inspired both by St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Val-de-Grâce Military Hospital in Paris. . The Cathedral is 518ft (158m) long, and 365ft (111m) high, a height which, made the cathedral, until 1962, the tallest building in London.

The Palace of Westminster (AKA The Houses of Parliament) over look a tranquil River Thames. The Houses of Parliament is most famous for the Clock Tower on the Northern flank, known world-wide as Big Ben. Big Ben however, is actually the name of the Bell held within the Clock Tower, whilst the tower itself is known as the Elizabeth Tower, as of September 2012. The Original Palace was destroyed in 1834 by a fire, and was subsequently rebuilt over the course of 30 years, finally being completed in 1870. The Elizabeth Tower was completed 12 years earlier however, in 1858, and remains to this day as the worlds Tallest four-faced chiming clock.

The Millennium Wheel, the official name of this famous London landmark is the  EDF Energy London Eye, and is known colloquially as the London Eye. At 120 meters (394 ft) , it was the tallest Ferris Wheel in the world when it was constructed, whilst it no longer holds this particular record it remains the tallest in Europe, and is the UK’s most popular tourist attraction, visited by over 3.5 million people, a year. Since the 2000’s, it had become a focal point of the annual New Years Fireworks display, often featuring fireworks being fired from wheel itself, cementing it’s world famous landmark status.

2014 in Review.
2014 has had it's ups and downs, started off badly but got progressively better. Various factors conspired to prevent me from shooting as much as I would have liked, but hopefully 2015 will allow me to get out and about with the Camera more regularly. Pitstone Windmill
Pitstone Windmill is a Grade II* listed windmill in Buckinghamshire near the village of Ivinghoe, which is thought to date from the early 17th century.
It is thought to have been first built circa 1627 as this date is carved on part of the framework. This is the earliest date to be found on any windmill in the British Isles, this date is however in dispute, as an early windmill such as this would have required frequent repairs, thus meaning that the Mill itself could in fact be older that indicated.
