So, my doctor requires me for bed rest for 2 weeks. Why? I had my surgery on my left foot last Sept. 17 due to Chronic Osteomyelitis (itโs an infection of the bone). And yeah, ainโt got nothing to do but to lay, read, watch movie, and if I feel sleepy, just repeat. In short, IโM BORED and everything keeps boggling on my mind.
Thinking how normal my life would be if I wasnโt caught by this infection 12 years ago.. Yes, 12 years ago. I was diagnosed with Cellulitis 12 years ago. I was on 6th Grade then. And I still remember how my left foot hurts during our recollection. It was too painful. Mama thought it was an injury so we called a โfaith healerโ. She massaged my foot, put an oil and herbal leaves. After that, my foot wasย swollen. Weeks after that, I got a high fever. Even my urine turned reddish because of infection. Because of that, I was already convinced (Coz I really hate doctors, theyโre convincing me from the start but I just keep on refusing.) that they should bring me to the hospital. It was Sunday. The doctor scheduled me for operation on Monday.
Monday morning, as I woke up, Iโve seen red stains on the lower part of my bedsheet as the pus already bust because of the antibiotics given. The doctor came in, he said that the nurses should bring me down to the Emergency Room at 10AM for the operation.
10AM. Lying on one of the beds at the ER. Nurses around me are getting ready. At first, there are only 2 nurses holding my foot. But as the doctor started his operation, I shouted. LOUDLY. VERY LOUDLY. Oh. No. I SCREAM. LOUDLY. VERY LOUDLY. Pinisa-pisa. Para lumabas yung nana. The operation done with no anesthesia. Di na raw kasi tatablan kasi sobrang namamaga. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo painful. Until now, whenever I talked about it, I still feel the pain from that moment.
I am required for bedrest then. Year 2004. Iโm already graduating for Elementary. I wasnโt able to attend our Baccalaureate Mass, even on our Graduation Day.
High School. I need to wear high socks just to cover my wound. High socks with aย bandage. My favorite day is Wednesday coz it's our PE Day, weโre wearing jogging pants. So no hassle for me. I even lost my self-confidence. My confidence to join extra-curricular activities went down.
College. Everything is okay coz we are not required to wear skirts.
The wound is still fresh. Yes, it's 2016, 12 years. Thereโs still an open wound on my foot. The wound from the first operation got healed. But, everytime na may gumagaling, may susulpot ulit na bagong sugat. Not a normal sugat. But sugat na may nana. This 2016, this is my third open wound.
Since 2004, my everyday life is not normal. Until today, when I go out, I need to cover the wound with a band-aid. It is badly needed. Whenever I go on trips, especially beaches, waterproof band-aids are on my number 1 list that I must NEVER EVER forget.
And on my situation right now, I always thinkโฆ..
