What is success anyway?
I am now turning to 40, so I’m middle aged woman. This is both hard and easy.
I have had some pretty nasty crisis in life, more mental than anything else.
These times in life have put me in places that forced me to prioritize my life.
To be honest, there are lots of things I would all want. In the same time, of course. But there was a day, when I realized, that if I don’t prioritize, the life would do it for me.
Couple of years ago I did do anything and everything at the same time. I have had my own business for 6,5 years. And on the side, I always had another job, first as Marketing Head of large btob company, then managing director of Ecommerce sector association. I also have a daughter and a dream to be a healthy person when I turn to 50.
Just like anyone else, I would read these success stories about people who manage to do it all. They have 10 successful companies, the attend to fitness/triathlon/marathon contests, bake beautiful cakes to their children’s birthday parties and have no problem with that.
Then, in the middle of age crisis and divorce, at a time I was losing an important client, I was telling my problems to a friend, when she looked me in the eyes and said: “I had no idea, I always envied you, because you seem to have done everything”. I was amazed, because nothing felt like that.
When I went home, I realized I have both: too high standards compared to what I can achieve compared to time I have in my hands and also no idea what of the things are most important to me.
After that I started to prioritize. I got my hands-on Aki Hintsa’s ( a mental coach and a doctor) book and realized, that if I won’t prioritize myself, life will do it for me.
This led me to a valuable lesson. I can have anything I want if I really put 100% effort in it, but not everyone can have everything in life. And if I don’t know what is really the most important things for me, I end up with stuff life gives me and also end up loosing something valuable.
After this, I started my process of defining my best life and decided to follow my own truth. It forced me to some nasty prioritizing decisions but gave me more time to focus on the most important stuff. The work is not done yet (or ever), but I still want to share my findings with you.
Have you managed to find your definition of success in your life?
