So honestly the hardest part for me is always the posing and initial sketching. I’ll go through like 1-10 sketches  trying to figure out how I want it. As well as brainstorm a bit before it. A lot of attempts get scrapped, or attempted and then swapped for other more appealing ideas til I get good inspiration.

There’s also a lot of cutting. My first instinct is to think in story mode. So everything wants to be a comic. My hand muscles nor my time management can handle that. So I either have to trim it down to a sequence or stick to lineart, simplify things, or how I keep trying to convince myself to write a narrative instead of talking heads. And just put illustrations for the good bits.

But ah as for sketching, I try to stick to shapes more than frame structures. I know some people make like stick figure skeletons but it’s faster and easier for me to work in blobs and connect them. Here’s some examples of sketches I didn’t delete.

so you can see from her rear that her legs are just two shapes my hand knows. And her expression is very vague. Expressions for me are often difficult and don’t come til I’ve already drawn the hair or face shape to see how I can make her eyes fall or what have you. From there the sketch is lowered in opacity and lined on top of with Paint Tool Sai’s main pen brush. Usually at around 5-10 stabilizing? I might add simple color and text but the more I have to do the slower my content is, sometimes if I’m in the right groove I won’t need an undersketch at all, or just need it for incredibly vague blocking.

Here’s a more complicated one I actually kept the sketch of. More likely this is a secondary sketch. Sometimes I’ll have several sketch layers that I keep cleaning up on until it’s something more workable, especially if it’s at a non standard angle.

This piece in particular took longer because I felt like I needed to color it. Especially if I was to depict milk running, I didn’t want black and white necessarily. But you can see one layer is just her skin, then another layer where I blend in her softer areas. Along with a backgound and spots for the text to land. Really once I get past sketching and lineart it’s just the next logical steps. Coloring in the lines. Adding fun effects, trying to make milk look like milk, tears look like tears, and add little sparkle type effects so you know she’s feeling something, since unless I’m writing how she’s feeling it’s harder to tell. The little crown like shapes show oh she’s getting sensitive or pricks there.

Effects are always fun to play with, but a lot of it doesn’t need a special program. There’s just some things like duplicating layers, or text that are easier on computers. But making the face look a bit like it’s melting can depict sweat, speed lines can show action, jolts can show a sensation, and how the text is whether it be slightly more opaque or fuzzy can show how she’s interpreting the text. It’s clear the trigger words are doing something, and that cloud above her is something only affecting her.

As for shapes. This blog in particular has been me trying to pull away from what my hand naturally wants to do. It’s so used to ‘standard anime’ sort of form, that I’ve been really pushing it to simplify and break down into blocky shapes and cartoon ideas. Hence why they’re all somewhat chibi looking.

I’m used to doing a body like this. It’s my go to proportions for a rando character. It still sneaks in sometimes but I try my best to resist it.

What I try to do is more simplified shaped characters.

It breaks down easier into shapes and forms, and I try to work with a thicker pen when possible. Not only is it usually faster, but it’s the type of style I’m trying to do.

Why? I want to push my art into cartooning, and as a smut artist, I feel that cutesy simplified smut is a little less common than anime or semi realism. As such I always am concerned my characters will be taken for underage, but they’re not. But all soft things, lots of circles, less shounen angles.

I love ‘cutesy’ style smut, and I like to emulate that, while trying to make them feel more stylized than necessarily halflings.

The other hard part is consistency. So I do end up spending a lot of time checking back previous pages as references for how I may have done certain hair, eyes, or head shapes. Noses tend to be a bit more inconsistant but not to a noticable extent like anime nose one minute, honker the next. Unless it’s a tf that involves like an animal nose.

Funfact, when trying to keep breast sizes consistent I often make a layer, draw over it to just fill in a circle where the breast is.

Or sometimes, when you don’t need to change angles every panel, because you’re mostly doing story progression, or a scene to scene. It makes more sense to copy paste and alter.

For example while it’s not noticable to the average reader you can tell from the layering that Freckles breasts increase panel to panel. It also saves time and effort. But obviously can’t go forever or it gets stale.

Like oglaf is so well loved bc it’s funny as shit. And I love making humor in my work, but I can’t make the same KIND of jokes in a sfw account.
