Cho thought about leaving, was it a good idea, she asked herself. Well, it would make finding for Theo finding her much easier, and she did need a different atmosphere of she werenât going to experience another anxiety attack. She walked up beside Marcus and offered her best confident smile, âGo.â
he nods once, before apparating them towards his flat. âwell,â he says, without much aplomb, âwelcome to my humble abode.â marcus lets go of her arm, and opens the main door, gesturing for her to follow him. almost instantly, heâs greeted by two cats, rubbing their head on his pants. well, there goes their fur. cleaning up would be wonderful. âso,â he starts, as he darts a glance at cho, âmeet mayo and soy sauce.â

he saw marcus surprised face expression and almost rolled his eyes at the other: what did he think malfoys slept in: suits? the expensive clothes and jewelry were all for show. draco felt the most like himself when he came home after a day of work and could change into something more comfortable. âiâm not that small and youâre not that tall,â he said dryly, but couldnât help grinning lightly. he had expected the remark. Â âi was thinking the exact same thing. coffee is better, but wonât help me sleep.â not that had stopped him before, alas. he took a sip of his tea as well and closed his eyes.
he imagined marcus laying on his couch for a couple of seconds and couldnât help but chuckle. âmarcus, itâs fine. i offered half of my bed and you can take it. unless you donât want to yourself.â which, of course, was a possibility as well. but if it had been that, draco figured marcus would have said it by now. he heard the otherâs footsteps going to his closet, his words making him chuckle again. âi have my eyes closed if that makes you feel any better,â he teased. âbut now that you mention it - maybe you should go to the bathroom to change.â he took another sip of his tea and tried to hold onto the light mood that marcusâ remark had brought to the conversation. âso do you have any weird rituals before you go to bed?â he questioned.Â
âyes, please,â he says, in a high tittering voice, âiâd like to protect my sanctity, if you donât mind.â marcus rummages through dracoâs closet, trying to find the one that fit him the best. he finds one worn-out shirt, and well-- he doesnât have the greatest legs, but this shorts would do. once heâs put everything on, he comes back to sit crossed legged on top of the bed, facing draco. âyou can look now.â he says, with a fond smile.Â
âwell, now that you mentioned,â he draws it out, just to be dramatic shit, before adding, âi usually sleep shirtless, but i donât want to offend your delicate sensibilities.â marcus taps on his knees restlessly, âand i usually have one long jog. but itâs too late for that, i think.â he scrunches his nose-- definitely no jogging, not when his adrenaline could come crashing any second. speaking of-- âare you feeling better now, though?â he asks, with an uncharacteristically soft voice. great. heâs a giant sap. âyou should probably rest real soon-- i need to stop distracting you.â he mimes zipping his mouth shut, following it with a solemn nod, just for the laughs.
Cho nodded her head at his words, and let out a soft laugh in his suggestion. âI think we can wait at your flat, it would be easier for them to find us both then.â The moment she heard he had six cats, her eyes widened and her lips stretched into a smile, âYou have six cats?!â she repeated, in awe.
he doesnât know why he said that exactly-- but he does feel himself relax when she doesnât make fun of him. marcus isnât ashamed of his collection, per se. it was just-- well, itâs not the first thing people would suspect he would have. âyeah, yup. i do,â he bites his lower lip, nervously. âgo, then?â he offers her his arm, wanting to get it done and over with.
thereâs always something calming about grocery shopping of all things. sure, one might argue that it was a womanâs job, but as it is, marcus was awfully lonely and single-- so there really wasnât a woman to do it for him. not that he would want to let them do it in the first place-- because, to reiterate, it brought him a sense of calm. well-- as much calm as deciding over different types of soap could bring.Â
heâs heavily considering buying the rose petal scented ones, because girls dig this load tripe, donât they? with a careless shrug, he tosses the soap into his basket, before briskly making his way to the food aisle. it isnât until heâs debating the merits of beef stew for dinner when he notices someone staring at him. marcus places the beef package in his basket anyway, before gearing himself up to face the unwanted stranger.
heâs a little taken aback to see that it was a small human. a kid-- child? yeah. a child. of course it has to be something heâs not used to dealing with. he watches the child stare at him a little longer, and marcus just wants to back away and forget she ever existed. but what if she was lost? âhey kiddo,â he says, nervously, as he does nothing to move closer to the little girl.Â
âhey, haha, uh,â he wipes his palm on his jeans, trying to think of anything to say. âitâs rude to stare at strangers, yeah?â he sees her expression change to a moue of discontent, and he panics. marcus does not want this child to cry. âhey-- you have a dad? mom? parent? guardian? please-- are you, uh, lost? honestly, i donât know what to do, please stop staring at me.â

part 1 of / ?? or a tale of how marcus became the resident cat lady
fluff number 1: ketchup
the first thing marcus notices is-- well, itâs that fucking cat again. what was it? the third day? that the fucking cat was hanging out in front of his doorstep.Â
âshoo, kitty, shoo,â he tries to nudge the cat away with the heel of his foot, not wanting to bring actual harm to the worryingly thin feline. it only purrs at him, batting angrily (happily? fuck, he doesât know cat language) at his feet. he almost drops his muggle take-away, but manages to bypass the annoying cat, and enter his barren flat.
he forgets about the cat, that night, too caught up reading the newest dragonology magazine.
//
marcus swears loudly as his foot collides with a soft, warm body, and this time, he does drop his goddamned take-away. âwhat the fuck,â he hisses, trying to hold in a wince. the cat (the demon-spawn, marcus thinks) just meows at him, before attacking the food that spilled out of the take-away boxes. marcus lets out a frustrated huff, half considering laying down there on the floor and just freezing himself to death.Â
in time, he manages to sit up, paying minimal attention to the cat gorging itself on his food-- his stomach grumbles, and, fuck, that was his dinner-- merlinâs tight fucking arse, heâs going to have to buy food again.
//
this time, marcus was prepared. heâs bought packed tuna, along with his usual dinner. he even pauses in front of his doorstep, where-- of course, the cat was waiting for him. it mews at him, and if marcus doesnât know any better, it seems smug, the little git.Â
he kneels down, placing his food to the side, and grabbing the packed tuna out of a paper bag. marcus opens the can, and places it on the floor, eyes focused on the feline. the cat glances at the offered food, and even comes near it, sniffing languidly. heâs already rising up, when the cat moves away from the food and towards his own.
âoh, no no no no, no.â he grabs the boxes quickly, but obviously, not quick enough to avoid claws. he drops the boxes in surprise, and he cradles his hand, watching as the cat goes to his food right away ( some small part of him notices how it favours the catsup laden food, but anyway ). âfucking-- goddamnit,â heâs distracted from his rant when he notices that his hand was bleeding. of course.Â
//Â
it was the seventh day, and suddenly, it seems like marcus has adopted a cat.Â
heâs laughing loudly, amused by his current flingâs joke, when heâs interrupted by a loud yowl. âmerlin! flint! i didnât know you had a cat!â and wait-- what.
marcus watches as his companion rushes towards the cat, whoâs looking at him, definitely, with a smug grin. what the fuck. âoh, wow, heâs so cute! oh, but so thin.â she tsks at him, cradling the cat in her hands, and merlin, marcus didnât even know its ( his ) gender before. âwell-- what are you waiting for? open the door, the catâs freezing.â
do cats even freeze? still, he opens the goddamned door.
//Â
itâs day eight, and heâs named the cat ketchup. heâs an instant hit to the ladies.Â
he kept forgetting that taking a stunning spell was supposed to hit him harder than it did right now. it might do so later, when the adrenaline left his body as soon as he was forced to calm down. that should be in a couple of minutes, he thought. he didnât even think about protesting to marcusâ words. he nodded instead and turned to walk towards his bedroom. what he wanted most was to fall down onto the mattress and stay there, but he took the decency to change his clothes from his suit to a simple t-shirt and sweatpants. he was painfully aware of how shit he looked as he looked into the mirror for a second, especially since he was more pale than usually and couldnât hide the dark mark like this.
just when heâs about to sink down on his bed - he plans to never get up again - he heard marcus call his name. he already put his wand on his nightstand, so he opened the door himself and let marcus in before he sunk down on his bed at last. âyou can borrow some of my clothes,â he said, gesturing to his closet, âand i suppose my bed is big enough for like four people to sleep in.â he paused, pouring the tea in two cups and handing one cup over to marcus before he took a sip of tea himself. âi just had a conversation with cho about how i hated tea a couple of hours ago,â he said with a tiny smile. âsorry to ruin our night, by the way.â
marcus walks into the room, tray in hand, when he pauses on his steps, surprised by dracoâs casual appearance. he didnât know malfoys even wore shirts-- that was a thing? still, he tries to hide his surprise, but he can honestly say that heâs endeared. âi doubt any of your things would fit me,â he quips, with a small grin. he accepts the tea handed to him, as he settles himself on the edge of the bed.Â
âwell, tea is the only thing i could find,â he responds, with a shrug, as he takes one long drink from the cup. âi would have preferred coffee-- but then i do need you to sleep.â he says, with concern. âi can sleep in your couch, donât worry-- i wouldnât want to impose in your space,â he says, as he rises up from his spot, padding his way over to the closet. âare you sure it wonât offend your delicate sensibilities if i were to change my clothes in front of you?â he jokes, in his continuous effort to cheer the younger wizard up.
Cho nodded, he was right. She knew she could trust Marcusâ words simply because he was much closer to the trio than she. A sudden aching feeling set in as she realised how selfish sheâd been, âI apologise, you must be as concerned as I amâŚâ She frowned, âAnd I doubt Draco had any part in this either.â
âdonât apologize,â he says, sharply. âitâs fine that you freaked out, itâs natural.â he assures her, as he leans back against a wall. âdraco was with me the whole time, he couldnât have possibly done anything.â he lets out a long exhale, the urge to smoke surfacing. âwould you want to wait for them to come back?â he asks, facing the younger witch. âor-- and i donât mean this in some sick perverse way, i could bring you to my flat?â he suggests, without malice. âi have six cats, and-- well, they might help you calm down.â
it had taken him over an hour to return to the ballroom. most people would be done with a interrogation in ten minutes, but he didnât handle authority well ( in fact, the only thing he felt like he was capable of was challenging said authority ) and refused to just answer the questions that were asked to him because they had no right to drag him into interrogation in the first place. he took the stunning spell rather well, so at least that was something he shouldnât worry about. he was glad to have found marcus - at last - and that the other seemed so understanding about the situation.Â
he simply nodded on the otherâs words and closed his eyes, waiting for the apparition to happen. the next moment he found himself in front of his own flat. opening his eyes again, he got his keys to open his flat door. he let marcus in first and immediately locked the door as he walked in as well. âthank you,â he said. âyea, iâm sure thatâs true. i am great company.â he wasnât sure how convincing he sounded right now. âwhat do people usually do in such situations?â he wondered aloud. âwhat do i do? do i offer you tea?â do you even have tea right now, draco? âdo i just crash in bed immediately? this is completely new ground. i donât usually take someone out and get stunned and dragged out of the room halfway.âÂ
marcus surveys the room with a barely reigned curiousity. still heâs distracted from his task at dracoâs words, and he approaches the younger wizard, placing a placating hand on his shoulder. âwhat you should do right now is rest,â he says, softly but firmly. âiâm going to make you tea, while you go burrow yourself in your bed.â he adds, with a pointed look, brooking no opposition. marcus was grateful for his years of experience as a quidditch captain; authority came to him so naturally. âthen iâll go stay with you, alright? i do hope you have an extra mattress.â he gently nudges draco, âgo, yeah? iâm going to look for your kitchen.â
he doesnât bother waiting for draco to reply, leaving the younger wizard there as he makes his way to the kitchen, wherever it was. it took him a few seconds, but he finally locates it. a moment or two, after heâs found biscuits and brewed tea, he tries to find dracoâs room, a conjured tray carrying the snacks. âdraco?â he calls, in hopes of actually locating his room.Â
Cho took his advice and breathed, it seemed to be the only thing she was capable of in this crowd if sheâd been left alone long enough. She nodded her head, if Theo was dragged away, she couldnât imagine how Draco was taken from Marcus. She felt safe being in his company, much like Georgeâs. âThey took him after the speechâŚâ The voice⌠she thought to herself, shaking her head, Cho tried to keep those thoughts away. âThey wouldnât even let me see him, but Marcus, he didnât do anything!â she exclaimed.
âhey-- itâs alright, okay? theo and draco-- theyâve been through worse.â he says, which-- wasnât probably the best thing he could say, but itâd have to do. he wasnât one to sugarcoat his words. he leads them to an open terrace, hoping that a breath of fresh air would do them both good, while they wait for the wards to fall. âknowing draco, heâd be irritating the aurors, and theo--â he pauses, âwell-- i feel like theyâd be so purposely vague, theyâd piss off the aurors so easily.â with only the brief moment of hesitance, he takes choâs hand in his, hoping to at least be of comfort. âtheyâre brave, alright?â

@marcusfl.
he was exhausted - which was understating it - after being stunned and taken away by a couple of aurors for an interrogation. he had worried about marcus - was he okay? was he doing stupid things to get information about draco? should he be? - as he was in there, unwilling to give up his dateâs name out of pure distrust towards the ministry. he had talked to a several others as he was making his way through the crowd - them either disappointed that he hadnât been held captive or relieved because he was back, there was really no in between - as he was looking for marcus. he found the other when he was about to give up and grab himself a drink, preferably of the alcoholic sort.Â
âtake me home,â he mumbled to the other, his voice hoarse as he spoke. his eyes studied the other for a couple of seconds, looking for any signs of - anything, really. anything that he had worried about before during his interrogation. âtake me home and stay with me. iâm serious. i know this is supposed to be playful and flirty and merlin knows what else but i canât tonight.â for all obvious reasons, of course. the gala hadnât been a perfect opportunity for a first date to begin with since it almost seemed a given that he would have to face some of his demons. he didnât count on seeing almost all of his demons in one night and preferred to sleep the whole night and day through. he leaned his hands on the otherâs shoulders, closing his eyes for a couple of seconds.
heâs been forced to calm down, and was practically manhandled to go back to the ballroom. it didnât sit well with marcus, being forced to stay still when his date could be anywhere, could be hurt or being hurt-- he forces himself to let go of the wine glass, afraid it might break under the tight hold he had it in. marcusâ decision proved to be right, when mere seconds later, heâs startled by a voice. âdraco!â he exclaims, worry and concern evident in his tone. he barely refrains himself from checking the younger wizard over, not wanting to act like an over-worried parent.Â
marcusâ gaze softened at the exhaustion in dracoâs voice, and he allows himself to move closer to draco, resting a hand on his lower back. âalright, donât worry, iâve got you, okay?â he assures, in a soft tone he didnât even know he was capable of making. without a second thought, he places a soft, reassuring kiss on top of dracoâs blonde locks. âhold on, yeah?â was his only warning, before he apparates them out of the ministry, momentarily glad to finally be away from such a suffocating atmosphere. they land cleanly in front of dracoâs flat, marcus making sure he supported dracoâs weight, in case his exhaustion was too much. âiâll stay with you all night, donât worry.â he says, as he waits for the other to grant them entry. âbesides, any time with you will be worth it,â he adds, in hopes of lifting the mood.
Cho was frustrated, to say the least. She had finally calmed down thanks to her friends but that didnât mean she didnât look as frazzled. Cho couldnât even make it to the end of the crowd to find out where they placed Theo and the others. She was trying not to think of the war and instead focused on searching the crowds for an end, to find Theo. The Aurors were super helpful, definitely A+. Cho grumbled to herself, perhaps spending her night with all her dateâs best friends wasnât the best of ideas, especially Malfoyâs sarcasm. Cho mumbled quick âExcuse meâsâ and âIâm sorryâ as she squeezed through bodies of people. When she finally made it between to large older men, she accidently bumped into someone. Rubbing her head, she looked up, âIâm sorry⌠I didnât mean to- Marcus!â she exclaimed. âIâm sorry, have you seen Theo?!â she questioned immediately, panic stricken.
he does not startle at the sudden voice calling out to him. but if he did, it was because he was completely on edge, having lost sight of draco mere minutes ago. âchang?â heâs quick to settle an arm on her shoulder, in case she might topple over. âbreathe-- hey, breathe, okay?â he instructs, trying his very best to be the collected one out of the two of them. âi havenât-- shit, was he taken too?â he asks, before pursing his lips. âyou know what? that doesnât matter right now.â he looks around them, taking note of the panicked crowd, and trying to find a safe space. âletâs go give you some breathing room, okay?â he doesnât let go of her shoulder, but his grip loosens, as he tries to lead them out of there. âwhen was he taken?â Â
in the commotion of the event, george had lost sight of katieâhisâŚgirlfriend. the very word tasted foreign even in his thoughts, he tapped someone on the shoulder, barely looking at them â âiâm looking for katie bellâsheâs my date and i justââ george was bordering on panic. what if they thought she had done something? the ministry was filled with idiots (ie the minister) and he was growing frustrated.Â
âmerlinâs ass-- breathe.â he berates, as he grabs the man by the sleeve. it only takes him a moment or two before placing a name on the face (which wasnât difficult, with how ginger the man was). âi highly fucking doubt your date was a former death eater, sheâll survive.â he says, feeling only slightly irritated. george was lucky his girlfriend was innocent, unlike his. âyouâre acting like a fucking idiot.âÂ
âwould you if i asked?â draco challenged the other with a little grin. âthatâs very supporting, thank you so much.â he noticed marcusâ almost slip up on the word like, but didnât comment on it for it was very obvious that marcus hadnât wanted him to notice in the first place. he canât help but smile as well as he sees marcusâ smile. now this had been why one of the many reasons why he knew taking marcus was a good idea. he didnât care about being stared at, just like draco couldnât care as well.
his sense of humour had definitely been one of those reasons, too. he was pretty sure he hadnât smiled - or chuckled - so much since before the war. âi can do it,â he offered, a mischievous glister appearing in his eyes and his lips curling up into a playful grin again. âyou sound really intend to do some harm tonight to those staring,â he teased. he was about to add something else, about him agreeing with marcus about it, when the song they were dancing to faded away and a voice asked them to pay attention to the speech of the new minister.Â
ânow youâll find out what she looks like at last,â draco mumbled to marcus and he let go of him and and stood beside him instead, eyes focused on the podium. he knew this wasnât going to be good in any way: there would be mentions of the war and of those fallen. he might get looks, looks implying that he should have been in azkaban for it. so after a brief moment of hesitance he took marcusâ hand again and leaned towards the other. as soon as the images of the fallen began circling the crowd he turned to marcus completely, his eyes studying his date rather than everything around them. âi hope this is over soon,â he mumbled.Â
just as he thought the talk about the war might be over - crinke was about to start talking about her plans for the schools - another voice interrupted her. one that sounded oddly like voldemort at the night that he had tried to take hogwarts back and lost indefinitely. the panic was visible in dracoâs face. he was quick to take his wand, but was unsure where to point it at.
âmight as well, yeah? show them just how stupid they are.â he says, scrunching his nose in distaste. bigots-- the lot of them. marcus was actually enjoying their dance (although, dance was too much of a generous description-- they were mostly just swaying back and forth, too busy sniping back and forth to truly dance), when they were interrupted by the emcee. he doesnât allow his disappointment to show,  instead, directs his eager gaze towards the person heâs been dying to see, ever since he stepped  back into england.
she was-- well, underwhelming, perhaps. heâs been expecting someone who carried authority well, someone much like professor mcgonagall. she looked rather young, too. still, his momentary fascination was snatched away by his companion. the hand on his would have startled him, but the solemn mood of the people around them seemed to have gotten to him too, and so he held on without complaint.
marcus squeezes dracoâs hand gently, knowing just how much this must be affecting the former death eater. he does ward off any accusing glances sent their way, and he gives them his own sharp glare, daring them to just do anything while he was there. heâs aware of his dateâs reputation-- but he wonât let that ruin their evening. just as heâs considering leading them towards the bar, a voice permeates throughout the room. withoutany second thoughts, he pulls out his wand, immediately sticking close to draco as he aims it at no one specific. it seems only a moment later when the voice disappears and suddenly, stunners were being flung everywhere.Â
he doesnât even have time to properly react, when he feels draco just collapse beside him. before he can kneel down and check the wizardâs pulse, heâs being pulled away from the younger wizard. it seemed to be merely minutes-- seconds, when he finally breaks free from the aurorâs grip, only to realize that theyâve taken his draco away from him. âshite,â he curses, barely holding on to the urge to just hex everyone around him. he pays no attention to the panicking crowd, as he takes long strides towards the empty halls of the ministry, intent on finding his date. there were aurors that seemed to watch over the halls, and he grabs one by the collar, (momentarily feeling a sense of smugness at the wide-eyed look the wizard sends him a wide-eyed look). âmalfoy--â he hisses, âwhere the fuck did you take malfoy?â he demands, repercussions be damned.
âDespite popular opinion.â She commented drily, âI donât like talking about myself.â The thought of sharing about her personal life with the public terrified her. She may have been a former Gryffindor, but the thought of sharing even a fraction of herself to the world to be crucified and judged send nervous sweats to her brow. âBut I will take it under advisement.â Maybe she could write an opinion peace in general? Hmm, a thought that warranted some additional Research.Â
âhey, if we donât start now, when will we ever, right?â it sounds too sappy and heroic, but marcus can genuinely say that this was something he could be passionate about. âdoesnât have to be your personal life.â he says, âtry to get a group of people whom you know share our-- experiences.â he taps his fingers against the tabletop, trying to think of a plausible idea. âget them to tell you about what has happened to them, things like those. keep it all anonymous.â

âi might be. but even if i was i wouldnât tell you.â that was the beauty of a mystery, after all. it was exactly the kind of thing that people liked to chase after. it seemed human nature to want to know all about a secret at the moment they heard there was one. he didnât bother to play this one out, though. âi canât compliment you? you canât be serious, marcus. itâs supposed to go to your head.â he nudged the other softly, rolling his eyes at them when he laughed, but couldnât help but chuckle himself as well. âi will keep complimenting you and it will go to your head eventually.â
marcus was nervous. again, one might add. draco found it oddly endearing - again. he could pretend to be al tough as much as he wanted to, but marcus was going to catch him looking at him eventually and then it would become super obvious. he wasnât nervous about the party or about the dancing, though. he was raised to attend such galas and soirees. so when marcus spoke he just smiled at the other, not bothering to comment. he would make sure his date wouldnât make a fool of myself.Â
âstop worrying about your dance moves and just dance with me instead,â draco said as the two of them stood still on the dance floor. âi can lead.â he would lead, since disaster was less likely to happen that way. he placed marcus hand on his shoulder and then chuckled. âthis is going to sound random, but i keep forgetting how tall you are in comparison to me.â there was a reason why he played seeker and not keeper, beater or chaser, after all. he shot a quick look around him and then focused on marcus as he took the first few steps, keeping a careful distance between his own and marcusâ feet.Â
âwould you want me to squat?â he jokes, as he allows himself to relax even just the tiniest bit. his hold on dracoâs shoulder becomes firmer, as he regains confidence little by little. âbut itâs alright, draco,â he says, drolly, âiâm going to lo-- like you, no matter what your height is.â he says, nodding gravely, as if it was a matter of life or death. his face breaks into a wide smile, as he finds himself moving along with draco quite steadily. it does help that there were scandalized guests looking at them, and marcus wants to rub it in their face what exactly theyâre missing out on.Â
he keeps forgetting, exactly, how it was still-- taboo, this whole thing was. it wasât as if it was only in england, but at the same time, they werenât this obvious with their prejudice in romania. marcus has already had his fair share of homophobic comments to his face, so it didnât bother him too much at this point. it does bother him now, because he wanted these people to look past their bigoted noses and take notice of his rather fit date.Â
he follows dracoâs lead for a moment or so, brows furrowed as he tries his absolute best to not trip up. âif i was any less sure about my dancing skills, iâd have done that fancy twirl and dip move before planting a kiss on your face,â he says, casually, as he pointedly looks at the other witches and wizards not-so-subtly looking at them. âat least give them more to talk about, cause some heart attacks here and there.âÂ
draco rolled his eyes, but also couldnât help but chuckle at the otherâs words. âyes, thank you very much. donât ever think iâve gone soft, marcus.â that wasnât true, but draco figured that marcus knew so much. he worked in a book store, after all. working in a book store basically meant admitting you had gone soft in pretty much everyoneâs eyes.  âwell, take your time to do it,â he answered with a little grin.
he took the glass as soon as marcus placed it in front of him and took a sip. âis that your plan for the night? trying to fluster me with all your compliments for your own entertainment?â he teased. âi donât want to hear any complaining about my ego. youâre making it way bigger than it should be.â it was stated matter of fact, but all seriousness about his comment faded as soon as he winked to marcus. âtheyâre going to see how lucky i am. theyâll see how perfect my date looks tonight. i wonât be surprised if someone interrupts to ask if they can borrow you for a dance, but i might not want to borrow you.â
what marcus did perfectly, draco could do too. besides, he didnât feel worthy of all marcusâ compliments, so the least he could do was compliment his date at least as much, starting right now. âi insist,â he stated. âi have to show you off all night and itâs not going to happen if we keep sitting here.â flirting by complimenting someone wasnât his usual go-to, but this was a date. he could try to keep this up. he took another sip of his wine and then took marcusâ hand, getting up from his chair as well. âyouâll be fine,â he reassured the other; he could see in marcusâ face that he doubted whether this was a good idea. Â âif itâs really that bad -which it wonât be - itâll only be one dance,â he promised. he pressed a quick kiss to marcusâ cheek and then led the way to the dance floor.Â
âis it working so far? are you flustered?â the way he says the last word is over exaggerated, accompanied by a wiggle of his brows. heâs completely at ease, now, his nervousness slowly ebbing away (and well-- it was partially thanks to the alcohol, but that doesnât matter). âah, see, now thatâs unfair,â he points out, âyou canât compliment me. itâs going to absolutely get to my head, being complimented by someone who looks like you.â marcus says, putting on his best starstruck look, before laughing it away, unable to keep up the facade any longer.Â
marcus tries to cover up his nerves over dancing, of all things, with a wry smile. âprepared to show everyone how much of a mess your partner is?â he responds, only slightly joking. he didnât go through all the effort of being a perfect date only to look like an idiot. but at the same time, he doesnât want to deny draco the pleasure of a dance. still, he knows when heâs facing a losing battle, and when draco does take his hand, he wills himself to calm down. itâs just a dance-- facing a dragon couldnât compare to this.Â
âno, no-- letâs dance as much as yo--â heâs cut off by the kiss on his cheek, and he only barely refrains from touching his cheek with a hand to check if it was real. instead, he clears his throat, intently looking at anywhere but draco as they made their way to the dance floor. heâs quite sure his cheeks are just the tiniest bit of red, but he wills himself to calm down. âyou lead, or shall i?â marcus asks, casually. âbecause, the stepping of your foot will happen, either way.â he warns, lightheartedly.Â
