Given those parameters, it would have been completely impractical to use anything other than basic white linens for baby/toddler clothes. There were no onesies with snaps for diaper changing or anything like that yet, either, so obviously you’d put every baby in a little dress for your own sanity. 

The whole logic underpinning transgender children falls away when you learn that, back in the day, it was perfectly normal for there to be no delineation between how very young boys and girls were dressed. If gender markers (like wearing dresses, liking the color pink, etc) haven’t consistently and historically (not to mention cross-culturally) corresponded with one of the two sexes, then how can gender possibly be an innate quality?
