every musician has That Face⢠when playing their instrument
Today I cried a little bit because I remembered that when Beethoven conducted his ninth symphony for the first time he got a standing ovation and one of the sopranos had to turn him around to see the audience.Ā
Today I got to my theory class a little late, as did most of us. and my professor sat down and asked,Ā āWhy are you guys here? Where do you want to be after you get your masters, where should i look for you in 5 years? Whatās your dream?ā
And is started out as a fun little exercise as a few people answered and shared that they wanted to be teachers or open up their own studios or be a conductor. But then Dr. Olander slowly went around the room and asked every single person to share. And each personās eyes lit up and they smiled and they spoke softly about what lead them to this school and what they wanted to do with their degree, what their interests are and how they wanted to use their degree to help others or spread music or make a difference.Ā
Every person. 15+ people. It took nearly the whole class period. And Dr. Olander finished and said she was just curious and didnāt mean to take up the whole class talking about that, but she thought it was good to stop sometimes and remember why youāre here, where youāre going, who you are and what your dreams are.Ā
I started crying in the middle of class bc it had been so long since i had stopped to remember why i love music and why i want a masters and how badly i want to use it to change peopleās lives with music the way mine was.Ā
So stop for a second. Donāt think about how much youāve practiced this week, or your grades or your classes or scholarships or jobs or anything. Really stop. Stop and ask yourself,Ā
Why am I here? Where do i want to be in 5 years? Why do I love this? What is my dream?
Remember who you are. Stop and dust your dreams off, and remember.Ā

I donāt remember when I found this .gif, or who made it (if you know, tell me so I can credit them), but itās just the best thing.
Mostly in how the horn player is not only bracing his ear from the sound, but how the shock of the hammer makes his music bounce. Ā
Not only the aforementioned, but the sheer look of displeasure on the bass clarinetistās face.
I posit that this isĀ absolutelyĀ the best moment in all of the known orchestral repertoire.
The person in red remainsĀ unfazedĀ throughout the whole thing.Ā
I am in love
what if the sound of the instruments youāre playing is them crying because youāre hurting them
donāt do this
I already know what my celloās wails mean

@tchaikostabrovich
me, @ me: thE ACCIDENTAL CARRIES THRU THE REST OF THE BAR HOW HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED THIS YET
Beethovenās Fifth Symphony but every time he writes ACCELERANDO it gets faster
rachmaninov or rachmaninoff??
tchaikovsky or tschaikowsky?
who knows
Richard Taruskin, in the Oxford History of Western Music, writes āChaikovsky,ā something which I have never seen repeated elsewhere. It is the only thing that he has written in the OHoWM that I immediately reject without looking for further evidence to disprove its existence. @tchaikovsky-official what do you think?
Itās spelt ЧайкoŠ²ŃŠŗŠøŠ¹ so you can do whatever you want with it in English.
Chai cow ski
Donāt do that
I had a student once write it āTri-cough-skiā
Absolutely not.

Nothing to see here, just a street corner in New Orleansā¦..
This is The Violin Monster and heās really cool. You should all look him up on Facebook. Heās the most talented violinist I have ever met, and heās super sweet and friendly. He also teaches violin to kids. His back story is heās a 400+ year old werewolf from Galway, Ireland who plays violin to quell his hunger for human flesh. I forget the details of how he became a werewolf, but I think it had something to do with a deal he made with a witch.
Story time: so one day I actually had spending money, so for funsies I kept putting money in his jack-o-lantern (thatās what his tip bucket is) requesting Scotch-Irish folk songs, and he didnāt just play every song he PLAYED them like he was in a music battle with the Faery King. I was quite impressed. Later, I ran into him, mask-off, at CafĆ© Envie and I told him āThat was really cool, but you still didnāt play my favorite song āThe King of the Faeries,ā do you not know it?ā and Violin Monster looked around and over his shoulder, and then leaned over me and said in a hushed tone: āOh I know it, but itās bad luck to play that song. They say if you play it three times the Faery King himself will appear. So I donāt play that song anymore.ā And then he smiled and walked away.
I donāt think Zach is just one of those performers who never breaks character, I think heās actually summoned faeries by accident with his amazing music.
