Raccoon, Cat and Beech Marten skulls!!!!

Not new I just wanted to share cuz I haven’t yet

A comparison of similar-ish skulls.

This one is the Marten from Christmas. Despite failed efforts to hear from the seller on ID we asked for help elsewhere and they seem to suggest its a Pine Marten rather than Beech Marten.

Still this one has a shorter snout for a Pine Marten. Trying to look at ID comparisons would have lead me down to Beech Marten but I missed out on an important feature. Both species are rather variable in size, the Pine Marten holding a flatter less bulky build and a longer snout. However theres something else to examine which can be seen in the last photo.

Whilst its not quite clear in this photo, if you take a good look at the end of the palatine bone it has a sort of 'W' shape. On the flip side the Beech Marten has a distinct 'U' shape. So I believe that is what confirmed the ID on this particular specimen.

But to add a Marten to the collection what a great suprise and we cant wait to add it to the Jakelog and settled with the rest of the Mustelids

Got these two for free, they're for 1940'/50'. Whoever made them wasn't professional by any means, both of them are missing all of their legs, but still I like them very much.

Death's-head Hawk-moth (Acherontia atropos) and Protesilaus protesilaus (from Honduras)(It's probably illegal to even own this rn).

It worked out that the skeleton broke into smaller pieces during degreasing, as drying each limb separately gave me better control of the final pose. It allowed me to craft this more complex clinging-to-a-branch position.

And a side by side showcases the massive differences between the 9 Banded and the 6 Banded Armadillo.

I still favour the 6 Banded, cause look at that guy
